After I got back from holidays, I sent a strongly-worded email to LRSA's complaints department asking them why they want to wait for my clutch to fail in the middle of nowhere before replacing it. They arranged for me to take it to LR Stellebosch for a proper assessment. Vehicle went in yesterday and they just called to say that after removing the clutch and visually inspecting it, they are indeed going to replace it. So looks like a Puma's clutch only lasts between 2000 - 3000km -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Nothing yet, but it was starting to rattle, which means in a few thousand kms it would probably eventually fail. I insisted on having it replaced now because the landy is going out of warranty at the end of the month. -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Would you mind putting a circle around the problem areas? I assume the warranty paid in full. Do you feel an improvement with the new clutch now? Can't believe that it didnt even last a year |

The focus in the pics are the washer thingies - those little rectangular blocks are supposed to be filled with a washer IIRC. I have not gone to get the landy yet, will do so at lunch time and report back! -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I've only saw this thread now!
I have never had a problem so far with my clutch, but I've noticed two of the symptoms described earlier is this post 1) Clutch Rattle during IDLE - which it seems is caues by a Thrust washer failure in the clutch plate assembly 2) Viabriation when ingenine is switched of since last October. The first symptom I notice it once a week maybe (and only knew that came from somewhere in the middle of the car, and just after reading this thread gave me a clue of what it could be), the second almost everyday... My Defender is a DC, 2010 model (AA793966) with now 38000km....Out of warranty by now (here in Portugal we have only two year warranty) Should I be considering getting a new clutch kit and wait till it breaks down or replace it as soon as I can? If it's out of warranty I would just leave it, and monitor it. If it gets very bad then I would go to the expense to replace. Except if you have money burning your pocket And don't use the dealers. You can get it replaced by an independant for a 3rd of the price |

Mine's gone now. Still at least I'm not alone. Going in Thursday. Hope it holds for the LRO show trip.

Merlin, how many miles or kilometers? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
