It just interested me but as you say probably as much good as a ashtray on a motorbike for a TD, but I thought I'd ask anyway as I am sure someone will explain properly. Thumbs Up

Fair enough, yet I would politely report that I can reproduce any time, changing the map does confuse the ScanGauge MPG calculation and requires recalibration.

I've since read elsewhere that disabling the EGR does make a lot of difference in the way the ScanGauge calculates the MPG, maybe that's not the remap itself that changes the calibration, but the EGR shut? That would match my observation, as the MPG is off even when using the standard map + EGR off.

Pete, would that make more sense?

On my side, I do not have any remap, but a ScanGaugeII indeed.
I noticed a much better MPG reported by SGII while driving with EGR disconnected.
And during my trip to Iceland (very long runs on highways, at steady speed), I had the opportunity to verify that MPG values were very accurate.
I only refer to the MPG gauge, and not to the "Trip" features, as I never did the refill calibration process.

It may be that the EGR closed does produce a better MPG on some cars yes, this is may be why the scanguage shows a gain. i doubt that the closed egr can make the scanguage read wrong as its not directly connected to the engine ecu.

Can we agree that IF the fuel figures are accurate when I next fill up (60 litres of fuel should give a decent estimate) that SG is probably calculating consumption accurately, or is there some other theory about it getting the distance wrong or even forgetting the formula?

Pete, if it comes to it, would you consider modifying my map to switch EGR on so I can do a direct comparison? Whistle

Does the SG show EGR values Question Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

"UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

How do you re-calibrate the SG and does it only use fuel used and distance travelled? Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

EGR + Scan/Ultragauge threads:

Fuel is recalibrated using the Fillup mode. Fill the tank then choose MORE - FILLUP - DONE - SAVE
Then run until the tank is roughly 1/4 full and fill it. Then choose MORE - FILLUP - adjust to the amount you put in - DONE - SAVE

I am not so concerned with fuel consumption as long as it performs well. Should I be considering any other upgrades to coincide with a remap to ensure reliability, especially in a hot climate like Austalia

We also have a hot climate in South Africa and the first thing I did was to put a Allisport Intercooler onto my vehicle.

I'm getting an Allisport intercooler too. Consumption is already down with the BAS remap, expecting a little bit more reduction with the intercooler.

Good choice Naks! Their service is not great but their product is brilliant......I suppose much like many other English companies I've dealt with (mail order)

My mate Thomas has almost convinced me to go with his:

Different colour to the Allisport one, just built in Austria with fewer guarantee issues for "us Germans" Laughing Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Black is not a good colour for an intercooler. Sunlight through the grill will warm it up more than the change in colour will increase radiation of heat..
