Just installed a Clarion NZ501, which is a nice bit of kit.
Took a few pics which I'll post up tomorrow when I get 5 mins. Wel pleased and a good price as well. Dj 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

Hi Naks,
Can you please tell me why you changed your Pioneer to a Philips CED229? I’m close to choosing a new one myself and would appreciate your advice. Merlin |

Hi chadjizz,
Like your Pioneer x3. Mind if I ask a few questions? Do you find that the screen gets in the way of the top row of switches? Can you lower it and still have the GPS working? Do you have a rear camera and is that a standard offering or the Pioneer one? Can you have two camera inputs (front & rear)? Is it possible to load and store MP3 files? Sorry to trouble you but the web site doesn’t give any useful information. Thanks in advance. Merlin |

no problem. 1. nope because day to day life i have the screen folded down. it always folds away when you turn the ignition off, and will come out when you start the car. but if its folded in when you turn the ignition off, it stays like that when you turn the ignition on next time. 2. yes and and the voice commands can be set to over ride the music or just talk over the music whilst it continues to play. 3. no i don't have one but they are available for this model, i think they use the same camera as the pioneer x1 4. not sure, i think you could because there are 2 separate input sources. 5. nope. it has full ipod control, div x play back, bluetooth control (both music, contacts and answering/hanging up) and so on.... i have always had pioneer and cant rate the sound quality highly enough. its massively noticeable. if i get a new landy i will be modding the din to take a double din as i have always had them in previouse cars, such as the d3, f900bt if you want any more photos i can get some. chad |

So just thought I would add my 2 cents:
I swapped out the OEM for an Alpine CDE 123R(OEM in my 01 disco - never had problems with this brand), I wanted a head unit with a rear facing USB and iPod compatability also charges phone/ iThing, can also connect any other music player as there is a cable that now sticks out of the passenger side tray . It also has bluetooth but there is another module to add(optional extra), sound shop is going to find out how much. All told R2500 with fitment. I've also installed an on windscreen aerial and this works much better than the OEM external one so now I am going to look for a well sealing bung before I remove it! No more fear of a wayward branch taking it out then.. Interestingly Sony make a marine radio CDX-MR60UI/CDX-M60UI as well as marine speakers- something to think about. Will post pics as soon as I can get my photobucket account to open!! |

I must admit I didn't get around to doing anything about it. Once I'd set the treble / bass etc I haven't needed to touch it again so 'irritant' of coming out of the 'radio' to go into the 'sound' (which I only had to do in 'radio' mode and not when using Iphone ipod) is less of an 'irritant' I'm going to replace it with a video display type head unit anyway so it will be up for sale ... |

Just waking up this topic.
I'm looking for similar features, camera input, BT, DAB....single DIN. Just wondered if anyone found a solution. It looks like the Oxygen unit could work, if they have a DAB capability. Can't tell from the web site...anyone know. Is the Oxygen unit any good..? Any other solutions..? Cheers Simon |

Replaced the Oxygen after 1,5 years in the Defender. Though I was really pleased with the system during the first months, I had to replace it due to very bad quality. The mounting had slack joints and the volume knob didn't work in 90% of using. Decided not to send it back to manufacturer becuase it seems the gave up with this modell and took it out of the market, e.g. it isn't sold anymore on the oxygen-online-shop. Instead I replaced it with an single din touch screen moniceiver with BT, combined with usb iphone cradle from Brodit and reversing cam. Indeed very good solution. You may have a look in the 'in car electronics' section in the following link, my installation starts at page 10 http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic14698-135.html |

Thanks...seems the solution is close to what I want. Not sure if it does DAB, but will research further...

The JVC had an optional DAB kit which I haven't installed because in Germany they changed from DAB to DAB+ and don't think there's an upgrade DAB+ kit from JVC for the discontinued headunit model KD-AVX77 or KD-AVX55(without dvd-player). In case you still use the 'old' DAB-system in GB you may still find the optional kit on e.g. ebay
