I didnt like the fact that the USB was on the front, so it would always look messy with a lead out thr front. One of the main reasons i went for the Kenwood KIV-700.

I wonder how that audio shop thought they could put a rear view camera in it? I would like that... Current:D4 HSE

South Africa 2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Alpine White
Finally got he Pioneer installed, and decided to throw in a pair of 4" JBL to replace the OEM front speakers - wow, now the sound in the landy is awesome!

The Pioneer is very nice, but it is very slow compared to 'normal' head units. A bit like working in Windows 95 as opposed to Linux Smile

The tuner is the most impressive part - never have I seen a head unit where the FM quality was better than my MP3s!

One of the sound shops I was dealing with now has the Philips CED229 in stock, I may go have a look and if the latter is faster, I will swap the Pioneer for that one. --

Yep, found that out yesterday. Easily solved by adopting USB thumb drives.

Also one of the reasons to go for the Philips - it takes SD cards. --

I'd really be inclined to have a look at that one in the flesh before buying it.

I was convinced that would be the one to go for until seeing it, the GUI is bit old fashioned and screen quality doesn't compare to the latest kenwoods, which is a shame. It is a 3 year old model I was told so that may be the reason. I'm hoping they might bring a revamped model out

Seems to work ok though and has a garmin sat nav as an accessory so that should be quite good, so not all bad Very Happy

It may be that we are being spoilt a bit with iPads, iPhones and expect too much from stuff nowadays for the money.

I have the previous one to that again the KVT 726 and I find that does everything I want. I also have fitted the 526 in the flesh which has a few more different features and easier with less cabling to install but other than that I think they're great. Another reason I chose them was because as far as I know Kenwood originated in the UK. Plus it had to match the kitchen appliances Whistle

Not thinking of upgrading as the 526 isn't that much different. Thumbs Up

that thing would not survive the gravel roads we travel, which is why I needed a headunit with a built-in screen with as few moving parts as possible --

You'd be surprised how well built and strong they are though Thumbs Up On that site I think they also do non motorised DVD units maybe that might be better for you?

Bluetooth Sony head unit, ram mount and an iPad 2. All I need and will likely ever need. GPS, Memory map and co-pilot stop me getting lost.

Ipad2, best bit of technology kit I have ever brought. ===================================

I also replaced the front dash-mounted speaker with a pair of JBL GTO series, made a *huge* difference Smile

IIRC 35W RMS and 100 Peak.

But the quality of high frequencies is sooooo much better! --
