Are swivel pins supposed to be this oily ?

I had a quick look underneath and noticed this. I haven't done any off roading but the roads here have been very wet and mucky. 7 months old 6k miles. Its the same both sides. Would it be dirt in the seals ? I don't think its coming from anywhere else. Seems a bit excessive to me. Any ideas ? Thanks

I had one exactly the same and had the seal swapped out first service. Wouldn't say it deserved a special trip to the dealers but worth mentioning if you happened by... Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

true but how much and how do you fill it when its empty ?
Its always been a mystery to me because some take EP90 and others take a one-shot grease so not sure how to maintain it Embarassed

Actually the one shot grease comes in a sachet with the proper amount, 370 ml or so. It is a quite low viscous grease (NGLI 00), whereas "usual" grease is NGLI2.

There are 2 ways to get the old stuff out: i) disassembling the swivel or ii) heating gently the hub a bit without burning the seal and taking the lower pin out. Anyway, I think in your case maybe 1 ml is lost.

There are also 2 ways to replace the seal, but I guess youŽll take it to the dealer.
Thumbs Up Puma 110" SW

just a thought. I had a look at the Haynes manual - ok pre Puma models but I think the axles are the same. Would it be possible for diff oil to leak past the half shaft/CV and come through the swivel ball seal ? I changed the front diff oil recently and while I didn't overfill it I used a slightly thinner 75/90 Castrol Syntrax.

Yes, usually oil migrates towars the swivels. Back and forth. I would not worry too much about it. Puma 110" SW
