its not so bad if the car behind nudges you.......
i end up nudging them as I'm rolling backwards be the time I'm into second and it therefore just seems to back a nonsense of using 1st most of the time ![]() |

I always use first gear, mindfull of the fragility of the clutch, but like someone else said, once moving I regularly skip gears such as fifth when going up the box.

In my old 110 defender hardtop (1986, no turbo) I did a lot of clutch sliding! Holding for red light on an uphill lane I did not hold the car on the break but the clutch. (just to avoid rolling back into the car behind) I know that now a day when people take driving license they are told to use the hand break holding for red light.
But reading this thread I understand that the clutch in the Puma is more fragile than the old defenders? It sounds strange as going off-road I would like to have a strong clutch in order to pass obstacles more gently. Look forward to you comments |

1st most of the time.
2nd if on a downhill incline (where I will probably use neutral till it gets rolling fast enough to "hold" 2nd anyway...so no clutch slippage)... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Always use 2nd, except when towing or uphill...anti stall helps!

Use first all the time even if only brief without BAS ecu upgrade, otherwise clutch and or engine labours to much for my liking.
Varies between first and second with BAS ecu upgrade dependant on road gradient. |

and no clutch problems in 3 years? Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
