So as I understand it - MT is DEFINITELY better off road and possibly comparable on road to the AT. But fuel consumption-wise will the MTs be worse on road - if so, by a noticeable amount? Also if you use your MTs on road for most of their life will they wear faster than ATs on tarmac??

I got 100k miles from each of my last two sets of BFG MTs, and most of that was, fairly obviously, on-road. |

Don't know if it is much worse but mine (285 BFG muds) does: Over 80mph- 20-25mpg. 60-80mph- 28ish mpg. Gentle driving (main roads)- 30-32mpg. As for wear- mine have done 30,000miles and still look new. Glyn ![]() ![]() |

Mine averaged 25.8 mpg in the first 11 months of 2011, the best average on a tankful was 28.53 mpg and the worst 21.74 mpg.
In that time I put £4,592.81 of fuel* in the tank (an average of £11.78 per day) and covered 19068 miles. I don't think that changing from MTs to ATs would make a detectable difference. Oh, and I have 285 MTs, a Patriot rack, and usually run at around 3 tons GVW. * Which means that £2,847.54 of that was tax. Then there's the RFL and IPT, then VAT on everything including the RFL and IPT, all money used to pay all this tax has already been subject to the income tax. ![]() |

Well I ordered taking everything into consideration 265 BF mud terrains. Thank you to my fellow diehards that pm-ed with their options and experience. I think it will fun with the 265s....chunkier than the grabbers and field work wont be an issue. My grabbers got to 63k before the side walls started to show wear......im suspicious they are on the jeep from day 1?
Will post a pic when done this week. Just need decent spots to fit to my a bar now. ![]() Porsche 930 1988 (laid up) Previous Td5 90 & V8 90 |

Nice looking set-up, Ken.
Are those rubbers staying inside the wheel archs? you lifted? To everybody opinion? On a 110 CSW. What would be the largest dimensions to be safely fitted to factory steel? From which tire size or diameter should you start looking for lift? |
