Bf Goodrich question
Time is running out on my grabbers at 70k. Time to change and I want put some meatier wellies on her. My man in needamerc has lined up BF goodridge 265/75 16s......he says put MUDs on as against A/Ts.

1st .? Mud or A/Ts.......I'm mainly on roads but do enjoy some off roading.

2nd ?.......should I go for spacers or will the 265s be ok re meatier planted look. I'm not changing wheels but putting the BFs on the original boost alloys.

Thanks David

I would go with the AT's, the MT's are noisy on road and not that much better off road, I did a side by side comparison on mud in my old 90 with newish AT's against another 90 with part worn MT's and the AT's were better.

I've always thought the Boost alloys look lost in the Defender arches, why LR do this I'll never understand. When you have a greater offset wheel the vehicle looks SO much more purposeful and 'planted'.

Sadly that means after-market wheels or spacers, but at least there are some great choices out there like Zu, Predators etc.

If it were me, I would do what I've done every time with my Range Rover. Sell the wheels and tyres as they are and get a second hand but new set with the tyres you want already mounted. There's always take off items on eBay.

Firstly, it can cost you LESS than just buying tyres, its just a small amount of hassle selling a set.

Secondly, I find that tyre fittings never go well, and balancing is never right.

I needed 4 new tyres (20") for the RR, a new tyre is about £190 a corner plus fitting. I bought a brand new set of updated OE alloys with new tyres and stuck them on, balancing is perfect at all speeds. Sold my existing 20" wheels with tyres and when all was said and done, it cost me £125 per corner for new wheels AND tyres. BARGAIN. 2016 D4 HSE

I would go for the Muds since I have found them every bit as good on-road as the ATs, they are not noisy, and definitely better off-road.

You will have no problems running 265/75x16 tyres on Boosts without spacers, equally you will have no problems with spacers (if you went to 285/75s there would be an advantage).

All of which just goes to prove that if you ask for advice on a forum such as this you will always get conflicting opinions!

FWIW I have done over 300,000 miles on BFG Muds (original and KM2) and quite honestly wouldn't bother with anything else, they are the perfect all-rounder.

As anside, cian Healy prop on Irish rugby team got this. It's all in the press over here so names allowed.

The nearest bit of grass it'll see is a rugby pitch. There's something that doesn't do it for me. Also from the rear the mud flaps weren't repositioned and it looks odd. Ok I'm jealous.

Oh.....mud terrains it is. The rumble on the motorway will be worth it.

Thanks gentlemen

Disagree a bit on that... They do a little zzzuuummmmm on the road... but definetly much better off road!

Spacers it's something I would not fit ever... Regards
