Mine are about 1/2 as bad so I'll do them myself. I really want to get going now, despite the rain, as the black chequerplate is ready to go back on. I would do ACF first to drive the water out then Sikaflex but won't ACF stop it binding? p.s. Just found out how fast bimetallic corrosion can occur: the untreated chequerplate had been touching one of the capping rivets that had a tiny bit of paint scratched off - there was rust all over it and stains on the plate - after only 2 months :shock: Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated  Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

You are right, ACF is somewhat oily and Sikaflex won't take well to it. Steve.

Actually, Mr Zag, following your excellent advice I have already bought Sikaflex and ACF and imported them to Germany at great expense 
... it's just a pity I'm too stupid to know what to do with them (suggestions will NOT be welcome )

Matt, OK crossed wires if your silkaflex is not the cement/glue type

I've always set to with an artists paint brush and smoothrite on all the door and bonnet screws to stop them rusting and then gone over the smoothrite with a genuine parts touch up pen. No nasty rusty water on the paintwork- cheaper and easier than swapping for stainless.

Alternatively, just smother the entire vehicle with ACF, allow to dry and polish to a shine. Comes up lovely and nothing sticks to it - except my wife's coat the other morning. She still hasn't forgiven me

Spraying with ACF-50 also stops the metal washers in between the the hinges from rusting and the pins also - you can't paint those and they look unsightly when rusty let alone breaking down eventually. My TD5 hinge pin rusted through at only 4 years old
 ACF-50 seeps into the whole gubbins and you don't have to mess about with paint, just spray and go |

I love the simplicity - just spray everything... perhaps not the windscreen
