That sounds like the dealer who dignosed my vehicle's failure to fire up, as a faulty starter motor and replaced it. No difference, it was the battery! But at least mine put the old starter motor back and didn't charge me... Peter |

If it worked ok with the MAF removed, then it may be worth a look at the wiring to that sensor. Where it enters the plug it can suffer from stress damage:

As LandRoverAnorak has stated, and I’ve also mentioned before. We had a customer, that had the same persistent problem. I noticed that the wiring can actually touch the back of the Puma bonnet, which also probably causes the insulation of the wiring to break. A new pre-wired plug, and a cable tie, to pull it down away from the bonnet, and he had no more problems 👍 |

l wonder if he rejected the vehicle and bought something else. |

It’ll be a blocked oil cooler, the oil gets hot and the sensor cuts the power this doesn’t throw a mil light and doesn’t read on the water thermostat so temp looks normal.

Thanks for all the comments to my issues . Sorry I’ve been silent for sometime due to holidays and then my parents both became ill so the Defender issues took a back seat . So where are we now - regrettably and frustratingly the car is still not with me . The vehicle has been sent to Bishops 4x4 in Peterborough by the selling dealer . They initially thought electrical but all the tests and checks show this not to be the case . The car is not logging any codes or throwing the MIL ( although it initially did when the car arrived - showed boost fault ) . They have done all the fuel supply incl breathers etc , tested fuel rail and injectors . Also checked EGR cooler as known to rot from inside out , accelerator potentiometer , turbo actuator , the known issue with the rev counter sending spurious messages to ECU , all the earths . They are going to replace the temp sensor on the block again ( supplying dealer replaced this with MAP and MAF although they feel the erratic nature of it going in to fault possibly points to ECU . They have one ready to fit but want to do this as last resort as they cannot send it back once attached to the vehicle . Since June I’ve had the car for 8 days in total - frustrating to say the least . The one thing no one has checked is the oil temp sensor but wouldn’t this throw a fault code ? I’ve asked for it back by end of the month - I’m meeting friends at Chatsworth and they don’t believe I actually own one ! Let’s see what next couple of weeks bring - almost forgotten what she looks like !

If turbo is not in good condition, thé engine will loose power and rpm
