The oil level is sufficient as I just changed it on Sunday.

Due to the rain yesterday, the oily area was cleaned up. I checked this morning and noticed that there seemed to be no oil leaking from there.

Could it be that the axle breather caused the oil leak when the water level reached it?

Will monitor closely and check again.

Mine was drum brake.

Thank you.

I checked this evening, and it is still leaking (see attached photo – I suspect the leak is coming from the area marked with the red circle).

I am thinking of opening it up and checking on Monday.

Alright, I will update again.

By the way, I wanted to ask if you have come across this second drain plug with a filter on an LT77 (as seen in the attached photo - already cleaned up) leaking?

Is it because the leaks from transfer box - O ring? - as seen in the attached photo. But the colour of fluid was red ATF.

Also, regarding this filter (as seen in the attached photo), the copper washer cannot fit onto the bolt at all. Is the copper better than fibre washer?

Thank you.

Hi Bro,

You are right. The dust cap was cracked and broken, as shown in the attached photo.

Do you know the part number of this? Is it same as front wheel dust cap?

Thank you.

Hi Dinnu,

Which parts or areas should I check when the reverse gear makes a clunking sound near the rear axle?

For your information, I just changed the A-frame 1.5 years ago, so it should not be a problem.

And the drive shaft looks great as well. Could it be the half shaft or the flanges?

Thank you.

Wear in the drive members/halfshaft splines is one of the reasons for the rear end clunk.
I would not exclude the A frame ball joint unless you are sure that a good quality ball joint was installed.
Good also to check the trailing arm bushes. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Ok, the A-frame is from Delphi, but it's not greasable.

By the way, do you know the part number for the rear hub seal and stub seal? Are there any gaskets I need to purchase if I remove everything and replace the hub and stub seal?

The other side of the wheel is leaking now.

Have a look at https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-r...0455_52627

I hope its the correct for your axle.

Seals are 7 and 12.

You might want to have the drive flange gasket #11 and the lock washer #18. I do not know how 110 is, but my 90 is with a flat stub axle on the rear and a slotted stub axle on the front.

Regarding the clunk sound when you turn left/right. Is it a one clunk, or is it a clicking sound (CV joint clicking?). 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Ok, thank you for the diagram and link. I will check it out.

The sound is like clicking, and it seems to come from the rear axle. This week Monday, we went to Fraser Hill and stopped at KKB. Before reaching Fraser Hill, I noticed a burnt smell coming from the rear passenger side wheel.

When the gear is in neutral and I let the car reverse automatically because it was on a ramp, it also makes a clunking sound.

then the axle oil was brown milky water that already mixed with water (I just change all yesterday). Not sure because of that, it got burnt smell or something else.

Burning or clunking sound, when freewheeling backwards might either be a dragging brake shoe or a wheel bearing on its way out. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Ok, I will look into these two parts. If it's the wheel bearing, can I change just one side, or do I have to change both sides?
