Hi all,
I am starting to get gatvol with the myriad of gizmos that I have in the landy: MP3 receiver, Garmin Quest GPS unit and a cheap LCD popup screen for the rear-view camera. The time has come to find a neat solution to all these, but the question is: is there even one? I have found the Pioneer MVH (R2800) and Philips CED (R1900) series. These are single-DIN decks with built-in 3" screens that also do Bluetooth and support rear-view cameras. Going that route means still having the Garmin unit separate, which is not a train smash seeing I only use it when going overland. I see Caska do all-in-one solutions such as this: http://www.planetworld.co.za/caska-univers...@757.html, but they are not single-DIN and they are moerse expensive, around R11,000!!! Plus going that route would entail cutting the dash to make the double-DIN unit fit plus I'm not too sure how they would survive the corrugations in the Kgalagadi! U guys have any advice for me? Would really appreciate it -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I use a Kenwood KIV-700, with an iphone running Tomtom. Simple, but effective, and I never have a problem with GPS reception (phone is on a brodit vent mount.
Does pretty much everything, there's a video out if you want to mirror the display, and even does dual zone video and audio. I added a Kenwood Bluetooth module, as it doesn't come with BT. 2010 110 XS USW (the slow one) 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ (the fast one) 2005 Ducati ST3 1954 Sunbeam S8 |

I am looking at the Kenwood. However, the Pioneer and the Philips have built-in bluetooth already, and the Philips even has parking camera support. I'm hoping this means automatic activation of the screen to display the camera input when reverse is selected? --

CD/MP3/Radio/DVD/Reversing Camera/GPS all in one with this neat Pioneer system. Add a Bury or Parrot kit for the iPhone and job done. This model is now a few years old so no doubt superseded but I was very happy with it.

Looks good, but that thing will never survive the corrugations on the gravel roads we travel  Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Has anyone here replaced their rear-view mirror with one of the aftermarket ones that have a built-in LCD screen for rear-view cams? --

All i would say is if you want the bluetooth to work, make sure it has an external Mic.
Loads of headunbit have built in bluetooth, but no Mic so they wouldnt work in a defender. The reason i got the kenwood + extra BT unit (£99) was because it was made by Parrot which are very good, but its all controlled through the headunit. A mate has a seperate Parrot system, which is also very good, but you have to control it through the parrot system. I just wanted an intergrated solution for the phone and stereo. I am personally very happy with mine. Current:D4 HSE Gone: BMW Z4MC Gone: Defender TD5 90 CSW Previous: Discovery TD5 ES (Gone) |

Went to 2 audio shops yesterday and they gave the following advice
Shop 1 Seeing that the screen is only required for reversing, no need to upgrade the deck. They will source a better screen that can be mounted permanently and looks like an OEM unit. They do recommend that I put in one of those slimline Pioneer amp/sub combo to get a better sound: Click image to enlarge Shop 2 They have the Kenwood KIV 700 in stock at a very good price and they say they can fit it in such a way that the screen displays the reverse camera image when reversing. They will even set it up and test it and only charge me if I decide to take it. So now it's decision time - what to do? -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I would go with shop 2 and you definitely need a subwoofer, either on the back of the cubby box or under the 2nd row of seats.
