I thought the latest recall with the brackets was a stop gap until they got a final full blown recall and axle replacement in place. Seems I was wrong. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

To save money and not cure the problem JLR will follow the proven method of stopping the Discovery 4 crank shaft snapping, change the ECU setting to reduce the pull away performance. So expect to get your Puma's top speed reduced to 30 mph and a complimentary voucher giving you £50 off the purchase of a new vehicle.... I hope that i am jesting..... |

Hi all - have there been any developments over the last few months. My 2011 110 with previously fitted magic brackets has cracked and started leaking. Trying to decide whether to tackle the JLR Goliath or bite the bullet and just get a new/old axle case.

Nothing has changed so far. I got in touch with various regulatory bodies here (3 in fact). Two contacted Land Rover who informed them that there was no recall notice for my vehicle. It is 2011 and had a recall for the magic brackets to be figured. Could be sometime yet before they admit anything. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Hi Fred, I'd definitely try. I got a reasonable discount on a new case from hassling landrover Australia. I received some really ignorant replies from Landrover Australia before they came to the party. They know they are in the wrong. It's only a matter of time before a class action or something similar gains traction. I just couldn't wait. I ended up paying just over half my original quote for a new casing and fitment so it's worth persisting with.

Got my N706 recall this morning. I haven't had a look but what's the deal if there's already an oil leak present?

Interesting point. Wonder what the procedure is if there are signs that things are amiss? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

With a potential crack in the weld - I wouldn't be driving it for a start.....
If it failed & caused damage / injury or death and it was proved you knew there was a problem, the onus would be on you not JLR for operating a defective vehicle. I hate to think of the potential legal costs of that case! HTH Keith |

As stated, I haven't had a look and would rather keep that cat in it's box. As this is an official safety recall I believe my opinion is less than worthless, the onus is on whoever services and looks after it. i.e. JLR or a professional independent.
What I'd like to know is, has anyone taken their vehicle in and been told their axle is already in failure? As this is a safety recall I'd assume the procedure would be on JLR to replace the failed part, especially considering it only has 60k on it. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best etc. |

I believe that if it has already cracked you'll get a new axle case.
A more interesting question to my mind is what happens if you've had the brackets fitted and then it cracks, do you get a new axle free of charge? |
