Anyone who has got a puncture in a front wheel while driving will know how difficult it can be to keep control of the vehicle. This axle scenario is infinitely worse than that. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

So just to fit brackets and put the onus on you to keep an eye out for oil leaks. Why do they call it a "Range Rover Defender"? Only "certain" 2011/2012 year models. That's optimism for you. Mine is 2011 and I had the brackets fitted some years ago. I must check up when. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I am afraid this is typical JLR.

A friend has a Range Rover Sport. There is an issue with bolts on the steering rack, which can fail. This is a well known problem. The car was almost unsteerable when his failed.

JLR will only replace under recall on failure.

I would question why anybody would purchase a new car from an organisation which will not accept responsibility for its faults, which are so serious as to put lives at risk.

As far as I recall that is exactly the same letter as before, containing the same piffle, platitudes, and misleading untruths.

The third paragraph is one which should live in infamy.

reading that letter I do wonder if we've blown this out of all proportion?
a failure appears only to have a marginal impact on steering direction etc.

I wonder if JLR used the Range Rover name so as not to blemish the new Defender name. But they forgot to change the title. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I know that the original Defenders have always been known for their vague steering feel but when the manufacturer claims that if the front hub comes away from the vehicle, then "it is possible that the steering may be less precise" you have to wonder what's on the menu in the staff canteen.

"Staff canteen"? that was probably flogged off years ago.
However, I suspect that the letter was written by the cheapest form of human life in the admin department - perhaps a YTS who has yet to hold a provisional moped licence?
