Well, I finally rolled over and added Acetvo 2 stroke oil to my Defenders Diesel tank, the results from one tank full and 328 miles are listed below:
1. Engine is a little quieter when cold 2. Engine is considerably quieter when warm with a slightly different tone. (Less like a Diesel especially on the overrun) 3. When starting from hot and cold, it takes a nano second longer to spring into life 4. No smoke when either hot or cold, but there wasn't any anyway (just covered 8000miles) Other than the listed items above, there does not seem to be any improvement in the vehicles performance, still getting around 330 miles to a tank which I don't think bad at all, if your are after 50 plus miles to a gallon you need one of those noddy cars like a C1. Will I add more 2 stroke, probably yes, but i am due to change to a new 110 XS shortly and I will be adding this to that vehicle from the minute i get it. Just in case!!! With my td5, I frequently used a bit of old engine oil in it.
In spring, I would change the engine oil (not gear oil) in the Land Rover, the Car, Motorbike & 2 lawnmowers. I had about 4 gallons of used engine oil (worth over £20 in fuel prices). I bought a filter bag off ebay, and filtered the oil to ensure it was clean (can't remember the filter, but IIRC it was around 5 microns, which was slightly finer than the fuel filter). Dropping a litre into each tank fill of diesel saved me over a quid every time, made the vehicle run smoother, and saved me the trip to the recycling centre to dump the oil in an environmentally friendly way... anyone do this on a Puma??? Engine oil isn't good because it produce ash when burned and deposit like glass on the injectors!!! 2SO in made for burn into the combustion process and it helps to mantain W/O ash and dposit the injectors (and reduce fuel system wear). You'll be fine on it - it works a treat, but remember that the mpg gains take a few at tankfulls to take effect

I have been using 2T for the last 6 months or so, but just for a change, and as the warning light came on i have filled up with BP Ultimate an no 2T.
it will be interesting to see if there is a noticeable difference reverting to just diesel! BM52 |

Picked up a 1 litre bottle of Tesco motorcycle oil 2 stroke, today for £4.99. Does not say if it is mineral or synthetic but at that price I'd guess mineral based.Says it is formulated from "selected base oils" and is FB spec.Anyone know for sure?. Have been using Castrol Activo but decided to dumb down to the FB spec.
Could get a 5 litre bottle of chainsaw lubricant at the local co-op for €8.99, but there is no info on it whether it is mineral or synthetic or what spec it is. Just says "anti-fling" for chainsaws. Anyway gave it a miss owing to the lack of info. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

google the specs, there a standard. FB is low ash mineral from my memory of last search. cheaper the better i'd say. I'll sling some in the new one tomorrow |

Yep, have been googling away but cannot get exact brand matches. From what I have found out is that for €8.99 for 5 litres it has to be mineral based but hard to know the specs. It can hardly be FC spec but is there anything lower than FB sold on the market? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
