Over engineered isnt always good - sometimes making this flex and even break can protect something else. Uprate your clutch see how long the gear box lasts! Mike

I'm a fan of solid made-to-last engineering. OK, so what exactly, and in detail, does the G Wagen have engineered better that the Defender should take note of? Anything that could be done without raising the price too much?

To improve 35 spline, inch and half drive shafts and hypoid diffs.
Steering lock increased would be good, however I am very pleased with my Puma. |

Build a chassis frame from thicker steel and prevent it turning to dust in 6 years... Stop trying to sell it as a hardy vehicle when most components fail after gentle use? G Wagen components and chassis way more robust and they make Unimogs which ARE the best 4X4Xfar. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Crap that'll be why I'm replacing the chassis on mine after 23 years now then..... and even that's down to a bit of neglect.
Do you even like Land Rovers, Red Dot? Anything you can do, I can do slower and less efficiently. |

There are plenty of Landies of all types running all over the Pilbara, including leafers that are on origial chassis.
However I like to compare apples with apples price wise. G wagons and unimogs are priced in a different league to Defenders, a similar Tojo is about fifty percent more dollars. |

I wonder why they the did not send the Unimogs through the land of OZ then.Your target buying power off course.Add over 60000 Euros of components to a Defender and see what you can build.Same can be said for the Land Cruiser, two vehicles that still circle the globe and have been seen by people who do not know what a vehicles are. You can get a new Puma 110 for @53 Oz dollars on road.
Cruisers are @75 Oz dollars and G Wagons 130/160@ dependant on model plus on road costs ! |

A lot of similarities between the G-Wagen and 110. A key difference is that such elementary failures should not happen at the inflated price tag of the G. All the Australian 4x4 sites have been saying a Land Cruiser-200 Series would have had no such issues. I don't doubt that. Current: 2011 Shogun SWB 3.2td 200hp stock, Auto (my knees are shot), but this is a great farm truck
Prev: a Disco (got old), a Range Rover (too ostentatious) and a Defender (knees). Tractor: 1993 Ford 8830, 6.6td, 180hp at PTO stock |

1800 more! I wonder, with the price being so much more than a defender, what the G Wagen offers the army above and beyond the Defender? Tazz |
