Looking really nice...............which door hinges have you used? You can see how these big builds can be uneconomic from a business view point even at 150k plus many hours of labour can go unchargeable.

Linds,

I know folk will see this as extreme, but from a business perspective looking at my costs and assuming a professional would be at least twice as fast as me the resultant sales price would easily be in excess of £300K.

Assuming a business margin of 25% on parts (plus they would get discounts) and around £60 per hour. Also someone knowing what they are doing in the first place would save at least 10% on my costs if not more Big Cry

It's eye watering but unfortunately when your on the conveyor there's no getting off until the end

Door hinges are Croytec and they are great

Well I don't know what I was worried about put the tub on and with a small amount of fettling everything fitted with 34 and 3/4 between tub and bulkhead (and parallel)and perfect 90 degrees in the corners. In fact it was so easy I'm worried I've missed something Very Happy

Hopefully now the wings are safe Rolling with laughter

Finally got rid of the bling from the new cluster

Next task is to integrate the Paddle shifters with the removable boss and steering wheel.

Unfortunately is not all been plain sailing as with the tub now fitted, the cubby box which has been leather clad does not fit as the bulkhead removal bar is in the way. Going to have to take the leather off to move the fixing points 5mm (but need to trial fit the dash first to see if the 5mm forward is OK Embarassed

As usual ending in a question... I have this unit to fit

I'm currently thinking about welding a bracket to the bulkhead bar, any suggestions on mounting and any other ideas on location would be very helpful TIA

Great work once again Paul, I would still leave everything moveable until you have the hardtop and screen in place. The Dakota dash looks so much nicer now shame they dont offer a satin black option. Have you tried programming it yet? Mahker appeared to struggle setting them up.

Dakota dash is working fully, I'm really impressed with it, it all seems to work out the box, I've even set up the GPS speed signal to get the speedo working & integrated the transmission. The fact all the signals needed are in the loom to the standard cluster is a big bonus, it can display all temps and the EML is working and is fully programmable to show almost anything and in any order. Obviously still got to get it on the road but up to now it's been plain sailing.

EDIT - Was not all simple setting the fuel gauge was a hassle.

A bonus is that there are programmable messages so we can take some of the LR signals and display them as messages in the central LCD display.

The lighting scheme is also fully programmable you'll notice however I've opted for safe green but the red white and blue settings are awesome but a bit too funky (says the guy with the bright orange defender) Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

My next task is to get the paddle shifts working, going to re machine the optimil boss to accept a slip ring, the only unknown is how I'm going to be able to disconnect the wires from the boss for steering wheel removal, but one thing at a time.

I've also sorted the mounting of the Ibus unit, but more pics of that soon as the bracket has been powder coated. Also had the opportunity to revisit the fixing of the cubby box and hopefully it now fits Cool

Sounds good there seems to be a few instrument options now from the likes of Holley the main issue appears to be the operating speed with some of the budget offerings. Have you used the IBUS 2.1 with the amplified front speaker outputs?

"Mrfirepro", Hello from Aussie. Anyone following your "journey" with respect to your LandRover would be amazed at the complex tasks you have undertaken & completed, which I reckon have needed a high degree of knowledge, & skill.
So, I was wondering where you acquired these skills (of which I have none! )which are enabling you to build a such very special Defender.
Needless to say, I am VERY impressed.
Pickles.

Thanks Pickles and everyone else for your kind comments, they really are appreciated.

I've been experimenting with closed cell foam to see what thickness I can get away with in the foot wells, I think the best was this 3mm stuff anything more made the LR matting horribly lumpy looking, it will look a bit neater than this when I do the final install.

My solution for the iBus unit was to make this bracket...

which was fixed to the back of the central console.

My plans for the flappy paddles are coming along, I'm really pleased with the way the paddles fit the startec wheel and the optimil boss, there has been a bit of messing around but it all seems to fit.

My solution for the power to this unit is to use a slip ring and machine the optimil boss to incorporate the slip ring, however I'm only 50/50 that this will work Embarassed Embarassed

slip rings and boss (I bought two as I expect to modify this unit to get it to fit, so highly likely I'll mess the first one up)

will go together something like this, if it does work out the clearance will only be around 2-3mm max

The controller communicates with the paddles via bluetooth and this unit connects to the GM canbus.

I've still got to figure out making the whole thing removable Big Cry Big Cry
