You're so lucky that you can get small batches of galvanising done like that. My local galvanisers have a minimum charge of £95 so unless you were getting a chassis done you'd really need to strip all the parts you wanted galvanising & get them done in one go to make it cost effective.

I am a mechanical engineer by profession, but I work in the semiconductor industry and sometimes I cannot switch back to working with hammers and chisels on the LandRover
Recently I attended to some rusty parts on the Puma. Some brackets seem to have been installed rusty by JLR The cost to galvanize the below items in picture was less than 12euro, that is under £11 of your pounds. Yes, I think we are lucky in that regard, and no minimum charge. Also thanks to JLR, the newer Landrover parts rust so quickly that they save me paint stripping hahaa. It's probably cheaper for me to send parts like that to Malta for galvanising than it is to get them done locally!
The overwhelming impression from local firms is that they neither need nor want small volume work. |

Actually there is a very reasonably priced way to ship to Malta... a trailer departs every week from a hub in Essex. That is how I get all the parts, I buy them from one of the large business dealing in Landrover parts, I make sure i spend over £60, which is very easy to do, and get free shipping to Essex, and then trailer it to Malta. Prices are very reasonable, you can check on shiplowcost.com. Never tried to ship back to the UK though. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Underside of the bonnet is ready. The frame has been painted both side for extra protection, and will be re bonded to the bonnet skin before finishing the top side. This way the rivets head will get painted in one go.

Thank you gents.
Looking back at my previous posts.. I see that I started the work on the bonneth on the 17th May... hoping that by 17 June it will have the top side ready, not bad 1 month for a bonnet. Been at the garage practically every evening, although sometimes I admit to just have a coffee there and just 'plan' the work. I will probably slow down even more coming few months, as my sailing season will start soon, the new to me tdci will have to pull the 2 ton (or so) boat to the slip. I trust it can manage as good as the 19J.... the 19J did it for the last 12 years, never any drama, although speed was a bit slow on the steep inclines. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Been over 3 months since I did any work on the 90... sailing gets priority during the summer months
However during these last 3 months I was planning the work Plan was to take the engine out (still need to come out for an overhaul), but the idea was take the engine out to restore the font end of the chassis and bulkhead. However I have occupied the space that I had allocated for the engine...so change of plans again.. this afternoon decided to see if the left door is salvageable. I have pulled away the lower part of the skin to assess rot damage. I will try to replace the lower section, but not before I improve my welding skill on thin metal. Will see how it goes. If I fail I might just go for a new door. Door skin has thinned out at lower portion from the corrosion. Thank L110CDL.
Dome some little work.. Cut off the bottom section, and have started re building the corners before I weld in the new repair section. So far it is going smooth. First time doing such a repair and it is actually easier than I thought.
