No, just the cover this time around. Getting at the backing plate is obviously much more involved and I didn't want to disturb it all for what was supposed to be a quick task. I did clean it up and coat the visible bits with Dinitrol before refitting the cover, though. Darren

Yeah a bit more work for the back plate. IIRC I could fix the filter housing directly to the chassis with just one bolt so I could still use the Defender while cleaning the back plate and waiting for the paint to harden. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Finally had chance to mate my NATO hitch with the vehicle via the receiver and very smart it looks, too.
Click image to enlarge It's attached via an adapter obtained from Whirly90 of this parish and given a fresh coat of paint: Click image to enlarge It obviously comes up lower (about 130mm) than if it was bolted directly to the chassis, but that should work ok for my particular application. It does look good there Darren and with it being red, easier to see Clayton.

Absolutely My wife and I are collecting a trailer this weekend (albeit with her Discovery) so hope to give it a try out next weekend. Darren

Looks really good. It's the receiver hitch adaptor possible to buy anywhere? That looks ideal. I was about to buy another drop plate and put it on upside down to get it to the right height but it's so big and cumbersome to have around when not needed or in towing with a ball hitch. Need two of them!
That looks the ideal solution. Never seen one before. |

Yes, although despite what their website says, they didn't have any in stock a couple of weeks ago and didn't know when they would. They're made by Safari Equip but was told that they have a huge backlog.
They're also available from Extreme4x4 (and they're cheaper, too) but I expect that they're same part and are also out of stock. http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/Store/Recovery...o-receiver Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? I had an email conversation with extreme 4x4 about a transmission guard once and got the combined total of about 8 words spread across 6 emails, so I gave up in the end. A little effort goes a long way.
I like safari equip kit. The bar is from them and it's robust. Though the coating has failed at 3 years old which seems a bit short for a 100% garaged vehicle. |

Had an interesting failure of my Optimill removable boss yesterday. I came to remove the wheel but couldn't pull the right hand toggle. I discovered that the roll pin that secures it had worked loose and unfortunately, when I pushed it back in it was in the wrong place - within the coils of the spring on the toggle.
I had to unbolt the steering wheel complete with boss and then dismantle the whole thing before I could extract the roll pin and put it back where it belonged. I had a roll pin drop out a few times on mine, opened it up enough to stay put after a couple of attempts.
