The weight figure stood out to me, that's a whole 5-600kg more than a proper 110 kerb weight. Hopefully it's a bit lower (ie below 2500kg) so as to avoid it needing a cat c1 licence as mentioned above, as that would no doubt impact sales. 2011 110 USW

Given we all agree that this is, in essence, a new version of the pre-2016 Defender, which itself comes in at a little over 2000kgs, I’m not sure why we’re surprised by its weight. It’s not a monocoque body like JLR’s attempt at a new Def, but is a traditional body on frame design, but from what we can see on the videos, with better/sturdier everything. Bigger dimensions, bigger engine, bigger gearbox, likely more heavy duty transmission and running gear, better (so normally heavier) seating, trim and sound proofing, etc etc. All of that will slowly chip away and swallow up the extra 500kgs. To qualify as a Multi Purpose Vehicle in the UK (if taxed as N1 commercial) it needs to be under 2040 kg kerb weight to be allowed to have the same speed limits as a car. Otherwise it will be limited to 50 on A roads, 60 on dual carrageways ad only allowed to do 70 while on a motorway. Not a big deal as it is the same for most white vans and none of them seem to take any notice!!

There must be a good chance that's it's either a figure the journalist misheard or even a typo? I'm more interested in the fact that it's being reported that there is "less than three months to go before the company plans to begin accepting deposits" albeit it does say that in relation to "ahead of an official start to Australian sales next March." It also seems odd that there's no mules for the longer wheelbase versions running around openly and being photographed? "Two Grenadier models will be available from the outset: the five-seat station wagon driven in prototype guise here, and a two-seat commercial vehicle, both based on a standard 2921mm wheelbase. Shortly afterwards, Ineos will launch dual-cab pick-up and seven-seat station wagon models, both using a longer 3175mm wheelbase." |

Correct. I was just summarizing without the legislation in front of me. Just to further complicate it the figure on the V5 is a different measure to both KW and ulw |

To my mind the whole taxation and vehicle categorisation system in the UK needs an overhaul. Now would be an opportune time with imminent banning of ice car sales. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Perhaps Ineos had a different vehicle in mind for their benchmarking and weight targets.
Mercedes Benz G-Class (W463) Dimensions Wheelbase 2,890 mm (113.8 in) Length 4,725 mm (186.0 in) Width 1,931 mm (76.0 in) Height 1,969 mm (77.5 in) Curb weight 2,354–2,485 kg (5,190–5,478 lb) * or as the men from Steyr might say, "Here's one we made earlier....." |

It looks to be part of the dashboard. Raised up to house an oversized i-pad type screen that is the norm these days?

Given it's getting lots of media attention, I would not put too much into that. Rgds. Chris |

It looks to be an odd place for branding on the vehicle itself ~ you'd have to be knocking a pedestrian off their legs and onto your bonnet for them to see it clearly. So my surmise would be that whatever it is, it's detachable; and the branding works whilst it's away from the vehicle?
