Further update,

Having got the steering wheel of the 3 yo and gone for a longer drive I seem in changing the wheel to have developed and indicator fault.

Left indicators cancel just fine but the right indicators cancel as you start to turn the wheel right, put them on again and fine and then cancel as you straighten up.

The blue tab thingy is pointing to the right has anyone got any ideas please. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Hello 300TDi CSW Phil

The Blue Collar 'is pointing to the right' as you say so... Thumbs Up

Have a close look at your Original Boss against the Replacement Boss...The Pin(s) Length / Engagement / Width (if 2 each side) basically any difference between the two Bosses is where i'd start, if your Original worked OK then you need to get the Replacement to the same (or close) condition.

Look also at Page 2 of this Post (Thread) I modified mine at the weekend and updated 'what I did' to get the old self cancelling action back again...

Good Luck... SKIP

The pins aren't as wide as the lugs on the original collar which had more like tabs so I was expecting it to be 1/2 an inch slower in cancelling the indicators, I wasn't overly bothered by this thought.

However just having been out in it again it is almost like the blue collar is 180 degrees out of alignment as left indicator is a lot slower to cancel and the right is instant when you turn the wheel to the right.

I think that having read this thread when I put it back together I span the collar so the lug pointed to the right instead of left and vaguely recall a similar issue I had when I replaced the switch in the first place. It is a 300tdi with the black plug on the connector if this makes any difference.

In the morning I think I might have to spin it back and see what happens.

Does anyone know if the collar has a set number of turns or if its endless?

Hopng for a speedy resolution.

Update:

The collar definately needs to point to the right.

I have tracked the problem down to the rubber boot pulling too tight and cancelling the indicator when turning right as the cam clicks past in the direction of indication.

Now for the next questions:

Will the boot soften and stop doing this (it is about two years old but has not been fitted in a shroud before).

Will the switch have lost some of its latching power and therefore never be able to overcome the elasticity of the boot (which is efectively unused to date)

Should I just cut my losses and fit a new genuine Lucas Switch (the current one is I think a pattern part).

Ideas and opinions please. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.
