If you have the roll pins sticking out of the bottom of the boss, it should still cancel the indicators. What may have happened is that the blue plastic ring on the indicator assembly that cancels the indicators is 180° out. I'm sure there is a wee tab on one side of the blue bit and this needs to point to the right hand side. Worth a look.

Come on Brendan, let it out the bag. I really need to sort my steering wheel out in the next 2 weeks. Was about to push the button and you have gone and bu..er'd it up. How long have we got to wait? Does it include Quick Release?

Kindest regards, but Very pi..ed off,

Steve

Hello JOW240725, (James)

Maybe the roll pins aren't quite long enough to fit far enough into the self cancelling slots in the blue plastic ring?
The roll pins might need pulling out of the back of the steering wheel a bit further or extending in some way?

Hello JOW240725

DAZ110 is right...well that was my problem, The Self Cancelling Pins on the Boss were not long enough
and really not wide enough to reach and engage nicely within the Blue Plastic Collar on the Steering Column.

So I made a replacement set which push fitted over the Standard Pins projecting from the Boss.

The standard Boss Pins (on this Boss) are Split Pins so with a tight fit the new 'Over Pins'
could be tapped into position.

A Picture is worth a thousand words...

The Original Boss had two slightly longer pins on each side engaging with the Boss...which worked well
although I noticed that they too only just engaged, but 'picked up' the Collar well and did the job.

The Blue Collar

The Boss with the Single Pins which did not now reach...just, and were slower to pick up and rotate /
cancel the Indicators, my 'work around' Pins waiting for adding in are along side

Longer Fatter Pins fixed to Boss

This Boss now engages as it should

End Result OK, but in truth the two wider Spaced Pins (on each side of the original) were better,
on a slow corner, requiring not much steering the action is too late in cancelling,
I can fix this but it needs a MK II version of the Pins...so this has fallen down the TO DO List

Have a Look at yours, if you think it's the same issue try to source some pins to engage with the
Blue Collar, this may do the trick.

Edit update...
MK II version of the Pins turned into just adding two 10mm dia Nylon Sleeves over the Pins
and flattening these slightly to fit over the Steering Column, they engage with the Blue Collar
now perfectly, with 1mm total clearance, so the 'pick up' is quicker, self cancel is now as it should be

Brilliant!! Thank you all. Looking at those photos, I'm sure I don't have pins at all so no wonder it isn't working! Job for the weekend, thank you! Thumbs Up James

I like the thought of a removeable steering wheel, however, does the combination of an aftermarket wheel and a snap off boss bring the steering wheel closer to the driver and is there a combination that doesn't?

Regards

The quick release boss I have is the same depth as the standard Startech boss. Photo's stolen from a previous thread.

It was originally supplied by FCX but sadly no longer available from them. I do have the boxes at home so will check and confirm later.

Optimill do a nice slimline quick release boss but don't know if it fits a Startech http://optimillraceproducts.com/product_in...ucts_id=93 James

Thx.

From the research I've done it seems the Startech is manufactured by Raid so assuming then the boss is one that fits Raid spacing.

Optimill quick release is very slim line, see thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic37616-15.html It is for Momo but not sure if this is different to Startech?

Startech + 'Standard Boss' Dimensions shown below, when I added the FXC Boss + Snap Off (combination) this positioned the Wheel slightly nearer the driver but we are talking mm. All Controls with this set up are effectively as before.

Snap Off thickness is 27.6mm + your Boss Thickness will set up the stand off position of the back face of your chosen wheel
