I think I'm probably going to be looking at the optimill boss as it appears to be the thinest or slimest. Now its a question of which steering wheel? 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Me too I think. They direct fit all Momo, I've just emailed to see if they fit Raid/Startech as now I've held a Startech in my hand I can't consider anything else Shocked

Hi all...

Been watching this thread with interest and today phoned optimill with an order for a 36 spline quick realease boss.
Optimill was very friendly and professional, informed that my order will be sent out today (2nd class - sign for)
£154.98 with postage...

Will post a pick when fitted Thumbs Up

Cheers.... Chris ðŸšœ. ...... . .... . .. 🚗ðŸšðŸš›ðŸššðŸššðŸš—🚙ðŸš

Just seen this comment from Optimill on FB with reference to their quick release boss being used on a standard wheel

James Bolland "No it isn't compatible with the standard wheel, only MOMO style wheels but we have just developed an adaptor to fit mota lita wheels too"

Thought might be relevant/of interest. James

Sorry if my original post misled. I do not plan on fitting the original steering wheel on a quick release boss.

What I would like to achieve is a quick release boss and new steering wheel which are in as close to the original steering wheel position as possible. Lots of the combinations look like they bring the wheel considerably closer to the driver which is exactly what I am not trying to do. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

It's decided......

It's going to be an Optimil QR boss as I like the look of its dimensions and they appear to be a highly rated company producing good products.

The next question is what to fit I know it can't take a Startech and my budget wouldn't stretch to that anyway so I'm looking for a sensible Momo, OMP, Sparco etc 70x6 PCD suggestions.

Alternatively does anyone know what the PCD is on the Exmoor trim MK1 leather steering wheel? It looks like it comes with its own boss but not QR. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Hello again,

Thank you all for your tips/advice.

Pulled the trigger on the Optimill QR boss and Momo jet steering wheel and here is the result (wheels weren't straight when pic was taken!)

Very easy to do, big improvement to driving experience, nice to have more cabin space and removable wheel provides great security feature.

Thoroughly recommended upgrade!

Looks nice Thumbs Up

Is that the 320mm or 350mm version of the wheel?

My 48 spline Optimill boss turned up yesterday so it is time to tidy up my steering column (fit a new shroud etc since the last one came off for a replacement indicator stalk it squeeked when it went back and came off again). Then my new boss and MOMO Tuner will be going on.

Once done I will post a pic or two. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Hello stephan123 and 300TDi CSW Phil

Well done both, they look good, and soon it will be second nature to remove your wheel
before walking away.

I near enough always remove mine now, whilst this should only be considered as 1 level
of security, it is in my opinion, a good one.

One extra step, now you have this, consider turning the road wheels when parking...
thinking about if pushed where the vehicle would move to... Shocked

towards the curb... Thumbs Up
not into an open space... Thumbs Up
not out of the garage... Thumbs Up

Without the Steering Wheel and with effort, the Road Wheels can be straightened or
pointed where desired, if there is attempt to steel your Defender, the Steering Lock,
if functional could join in, and may help to slow things down, it's the time / annoyance
factor you are trying to move in your favor.

Every little may help... SKIP

Just discovered one downside of a removeable steering wheel.

Parked up car (on driveway) took wheel indoors and put safely down side of sofa...... roll on 16hrs.

Go to get steering wheel from side of sofa .... it's not there.

Ask who has seen it and get blank responses. Go into other room to discover 3 year old twins sat in little chairs thanking me for their toy car and pretending to drive around the room Rolling with laughter 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.
