Roaming round eBay as you do and noticed this.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-16-SA...4ad9ec4210 Now I have always been an advocate of the pattern sawtooth wheels, saying that companies like LRI and Paddocks etc wouldn't sell dangerous wheels. But looking at the pic I've posted apparently shows the difference between an LRS supplied wheel and another (unnamed) brand of wheel. Now before the "ALWAYS BUY GENUINE BRIGADE" start to fire off, bare in mind that at that price, LRS wheels aren't genuine either. So we are now left with a situation where some people are selling quality pattern wheels, and some people are not. So now your left thinking who sells the "thin" looking ones... A bit worrying Edit: Just looking at the pic in more detail, are LRS trying to pull a fast one here? They look like 2 totally different types of wheel? |

For safety sake I am one of the 'buy genuine brigade'....read on!
Interesting, nevertheless LRS clearly stating with poor grammar "These are made by the original manufacture!" That must surely make them OEM and not 'style?' Ask them where they got the thinner inferior example from? There was an old thread where someone had bought 'style' wheels and the mounting hub centre had sheared, there were devastating photos too. Personally I would never buy cheap copies. ****EDIT*** Found the thread. Obviously 'style' wheels may not be subject to the same testing as OEM. If they are cheap, they are cheap for a reason. If this is not justification for buying OEM nothing is. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Ask them "Why they are cheap" at the same time and what approval certifications do the wheels come with? Therein I suspect lies the answer, never mind about 'buying power' and the usual b0ll0x sales patter!

Sales patter could be good advice, like avoiding cheap options and why theirs is better...not always b011ux !!
Reminds me of this! |

There are pattern parts which are tested, designed and made properly and then there are fake parts which none of the above apply to. Worth remembering the difference. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Derrick at LRS has been around for quite a while and has a good reputation. So before publicly asking if he is trying to pull a fast one why not ask him directly? Or is it someone 'passing off' a wheel as a Sawtooth type?
When it comes to wheels I could mention one company who were selling wheels for road going vehicles as only suitable for off road use only as they did not have full approval. Ebay? Plenty of companies selling items which are NOT type approved so are ILLEGAL to use on UK roads. What they are doing is not illegal but in my mind is immoral! Then there are the companies which 'pass off' inferior products as genuine by using genuine brand names in their adverts. Ebay? Buyer beware applies Brendan |

Worth checking why they are cheap in comparison. Not dissimilar to the Provent Filter copy here which was very misleading as a genuine one was clearly depicted in the sales picture :
Unfortunately buying cheap copies (invariably from the Far East a lot of the time) places those innovative originators of the genuine article who often do get the relative approvals and certifications on their products in a precarious position forcing many out of business too, sadly! Everybody like to sniff out a bargain but at what cost? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! I agree wholeheartedly Brendan. I've been around the forums for years and heard nothing good things regarding LRS and also received good service from them myself.
However it really does look like cross-sections from 2 different styles of wheel. Maybe just the way I'm looking at it? |

A little bit off topic but on the same theme About 10 years ago I had a Subaru Legacy estate that was a special edition, few extra bits of trim and some "posh" alloys that were not unlike Freestyles and had been fitted by Subaru at time of building the motor so in effect were genuine Subaru parts. This motor had racked up a lot of miles in it's life and at around 170k my wife happened to mention that there were some strange creaking noises coming from the front, on having a look I soon found out what it was, both fronts had only two of the five spokes still attached at the rim, the rest were cracked right through. Even the remaining spokes were showing fatigue marks through the laquer.
We got in touch with Subaru UK and they couldn't replace like for like but with no questions asked sent us a pair of Wolfrace rims that were allmost identical along with a voucher to swop the tyres over. Not bad considering the mileage on a ten year old motor. |

It can be very difficult for a non specialist to tell the difference between genuine, OEM,pattern parts and cheap inferior parts.
Big companies can make mistakes as well. Have a read of this Now was that big companies deliberately trying to sell unsafe products for profits? Or was it a case of samples being correct and then inferior products being supplied in bulk? Or employees with insufficient knowledge/training to tell the difference between safe/genuine items from inferior/cheap products. Brendan |

It does look like 2 different wheels, I think that is exactly what the issue is.
As Brendan says, LRS has been around for years and has sold high end kit (Equipe) for over 10 years, I've been a happy customer for about the same amount of time and Derrick s one of the genuine nice guys out there. |

"O.E." is "O.E." to me, & if I have any difficulty in confirming same, I won't buy it.
A bit old fashioned I guess, but that's me. Pickles. |
