And it's been the weekend, and may not be monitoring the forum 24/7 for a thread they are deemed to need to add to.
Have you asked any of them for their comments? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

This thread reminds me of another lengthy forum thread on the Wolf/Wolf Style HD Steel Rims. It became apparent to me that very few of the retailers actually knew (or appeared that interested in knowing) what they were selling.
There appears to be a lot of folk who just buy safety critical components on price - potentially rather worrying for other road users. |

Usually don't have to think about other road users. If it's safe for me and my passengers you and others have nothing to worry about when I drive by...

Why not do a little bit of research? Pick your favourite supplier or non favourite supplier and check what information they are giving about the wheels they are selling
Why is that the case? That the traders do not have the information? That the traders can not be bothered to provide the information? Or is it the case that customers are only buying these safety critical components on price and looks and are not interested in actual specifications? There is a good reason why we fitted Zu's to our vehicles. The relevant information was readily available. We did see another wheel which looked good, was even 18" however because of manufacturers name and lack of readily available information it was off our list. So if you are interested in new wheels tell your potential supplier you want to see wheel size, load rating, approval, offset etc on their websites so you can make a proper informed decision. I bought mine from 4x4 tyres and they come with a lifetime warranty on the wheel and a 2 year paint warranty. I've tried to look at the rear of the wheel and it does appear to be the thicker section. I'll try and have a look at the spare.

That's interesting because Derrick from LRS said in his reply to me that 4x4tyres were one of the companies that supplied the thin looking type... Hmmmmm.

Err yes. Check my original post...
That is supposed to be the difference between original and inferior copy. Because according to LRS their wheels are made by the same manufacturer as genuine LR wheels distributed by Britpart. |

Thanks for the reply, what I meant by photo is there anyone who has an original and an aftermarket wheel that we could see pics of ? Front, side and rear ? If they were all made by the same company they should surely be the same ?
Cheers Chris. |

It's strange advert and strategy to scare people into buying your own wheels.
Also I refuse to believe that the original and current OEM sawtooth manufacturer is making unbranded unapproved copies. It would be very short sighted for an approved JLR manufacturer/supplier to copy a JLR design in less they've lost the contract and don't feel they would work with JLR again. |

Not wanting to post names, which would be unfair without evidence, but the spoke profile of these wheels looks to be similar to that of the LRS claimed dangerous wheel. I also wonder how they have decided that they are dangerous?
As well as other retailers needing to provide details of use payloads and suitability (as others have mentioned) I think LRS need to also backup the claim that these other designs are a genuine safety issue and not just another version of Sawtooths. Have they stress tested them? Click image to enlarge Genuine Sawtooth profile: Click image to enlarge |

I know what you mean but in all honesty I'm glad LRS pointed out the difference between their wheels to that of other suppliers.
If it hadn't been for those pics I would never have known about the difference. It's then up to the individual to make his/her mind up to which set they would prefer... |
