Agree about your sentiments about LRS and Derrick wholeheartedly. With regards to the two pictures it is very difficult to determine. Whilst the profile of each look somewhat 'vaguely similar' the wheel fascias on a complete wheel may well be identical as the profiles are not normally visible or perhaps a consideration once purchased. The wheel sections look like the same outer design to me, look at their left hand side profiles. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

"O.E." is "O.E." to me
To me too… And I’m not even sure what OEM means. If I cobble together a wheel in my garage and fit it on my vehicle, am I not a manufacturer of some original equipment? Doesn’t that entitle me to call myself an OEM? Even if I know that the fifty quid Mark VI sprocket fitted by Land Rover to my Defender is supplied by Jones Bros., and I can buy a Jones Bros Mark VI sprocket on-line for twenty, can I be sure that the ones they sell to JLR aren’t to a higher spec than the ones they sell to the general public (cf. tyres, spark plugs, bearings and a whole host of other things which DO differ)? Even a basic thing like an oil filter: even though we’d all buy a reputable make (Fram, Coopers or whatever), ARE they identical to those we’d buy from Land Rover themselves? As for “cheap copies (invariably from the Far East a lot of the time)”, much of my can’t-get-more-British-than-that Morgan was manufactured in India (the fancy MWS chrome wires, the Lockheed brakes…). One can only hope that the quality control is a little more strict. Peter |

Don't really want to go into the "what is oem" debate on this thread as it's been done to death elsewhere..
Getting back on topic, this is the reply I got from LRS this morning. "....Hello sorry dont know who made them but they are distributed by bearmach and 4x4tyres sold by most but can tell you theses are OEM imported By Britpart and come out of the same mold as landrover Graphite ones will be available in a month along with an 18" one available by November , hope this helps as people need to know the difference safety is our aim.." |

Technically I know very little about alloy wheels.
I have had a quick search on various websites and found very little information about the Sawtooth wheels apart from the fact that they are 16 x 7 wheels. No mention of weight, no mention of load rating, no mention of any approval. One 'copy' I found stated that they are rated at 1,000 kg and have a JWL mark which is a Japanese mark. I find the lack of information readily available a bit disturbing. Compared that to Zu Rims A quick search and you get
So you know size, load rating, weight, offset and country of manufacture very quickly. Why don't the companies selling Sawtooths make that information readily available? I for one would not want to buy an important safety critical piece of equipment without knowing anything about it but the price Brendan |

In the case of the LRS wheels, they claim that they are made by the original manufacturer, distributed by (not made by) Britpart.

As mentioned in my first post on this thread! If made with exactly the same alloy, in the same mould, by the same manufacturer using exactly the same process, why are they cheaper I wonder? Undoubtedly because JLR haven't added their premium perhaps to allocate it a LR part number? Again a good question to pose if you're seriously considering securing a set! Britpart do allocate a LR number to them. Also need to bare in mind that Britpart supply LR Dealers with certain parts/accessories. Yes really
Regarding the fact that they are cheaper, that's probably due to LR dealers charging over the odds.. |

Avoiding giving Britpart any money even as a distributor would be reason enough for me not to buy them.
Britpart stuff is cheaper because it's generally s**t with no regard to quality control. |

I've seen the same, seen the lorry being unloaded too and thankfully they were all Land Rover boxes - the guys told me Britpart do some of LR's parts distribution. So yes, in some cases one is not able to avoid it
However generally when buying 'OEM' bits you can choose Bearmach or even Allmakes as the supplier just to avoid having that name involved anywhere! Annoyingly the LRDirect website has stopped listing the supplier of parts, just the brand is shown now. Thankfully the hyperlinks still betray the truth |
