Hi Yolo,
Just turned over the 50,000 it's a 2008 ......... Pre engine mod / service bulletin but not rattling. Had the management light come on a couple of times lately and the egr valve doesn't always make the chugga chug on shut down. Have been using shell V Power whenever possible but occasionally run regular ( when not able to fill up with shell.)
When the EGR is not working constantly its time for an EGR-Change, had the same problem last month. The MIL-Lamp came but dissappeared after a while. In combination with the EGR-change i also cleaned the MAP-Sensor and LMM-Sensor (measures the amount of air in intake). Both are very easy to clean, but be careful with mechanical cleaning, use a solvent only. |

Hello all!
Just got here by searching for "blue smoke". There is so much knowledge here in Defender2.Net. I love this forum! Well, my 110 2008 is also blue-smoking on start up, no matter what the external temperature is (cold/warm). The blue smoke appears with the engine cold. Once it gets warm, smoke is gone. I noticed the EGR noise is becoming louder with time. Had it replaced about 2 years ago. When I turn the engine off, the 'cleaning cycle' is done almost always, but I notice it is kind of getting harder to complete. It is like if the valve is slowly getting stuck, which, IMO, is a matter of time for any EGR in the world. I also thought about removing it for cleaning, but it seems impossible to get to the screws without removing the engine. Anybody here who has done this job (removing for cleaning or even replacing for a new one) can tell us how hard it is? A how-to would also be much appreciated, of course. 2020: Defender 110 SW 300 Tdi 2004 Alpine White 2013-2017: Defender 110 S 2.4 (Puma) 2008 Stornoway Gray 2002-2005: Defender 90 CSW 300 Tdi Dark Green |

It's easy enough to remove provided the jubilee clip that attaches the exhaust gas cooler water pipe on is not obscuring the bolt. It's also really easy to clean and I would recommend a lot of lithium grease on the gears, mine was really bad but once cleaned and greased it is like brand new. Also stopped startup blue smoke

Awesome!
I'll try it out and, if possible, take some pictures. I believe it would be nice to have a step-by-step procedure, considering almost everybody face this issue sooner or later. Thanks a lot for the all the info! 2020: Defender 110 SW 300 Tdi 2004 Alpine White 2013-2017: Defender 110 S 2.4 (Puma) 2008 Stornoway Gray 2002-2005: Defender 90 CSW 300 Tdi Dark Green |
