No not as simple as that
whole injector needs removing , DO NOT UNSCREW TOP OF INJECTORS the seal he is talking about is the copper washer at the bottom of injector not the rubber seal at the top |

Thanks munch,
Ok so is the oil seeping out of the rubber seals at the top the possible cause of my oil loss / blue smoke on startup or is it the lower copper seals that have gone which is causing the rubber seals to weep? yes if the copper seals blow it would blow up against the bottom of the rubber seal possibly causing bit of oil pushed out seal , to be using 1-2 litres of oil the top of engine would be covered
as ive said before , leaking copper washers are rare on the transit engine , ive personally never had one leak , there was a pic on forum somewhere of 1 injector out of 4 removed that was blowing thats the only one ive ever seen , but of course this would depend on mileage, past history etc of that engine trouble is its best part inpossibe to tell which one is blowing if only blowing slightly even on compression test as compression your checking is no where near firing pressure even if you find which one it is , your have to do 2 , as one clamp holds 2 injectors and if you release pressure on clamp then your need to do both if one is blowing then you may (good chance you will ) need to clean the injector seat with special seat tool so really its do all 4 , Its not hard , but they are some specialist tools needed , washers and seals , new clamp bolts arent expensive and really should only be 1 or 2 hrs labour with the right tools , know how MY ADVICE IF YOUR NOT 100% SURE YOUR ABLE TO DO IT , GET SOMEONE WHO IS Last edited by munch90 on 21st Apr 2015 9:09pm. Ok parts ordered of Dan. ( 4 x injector top seals 4 x copper washers )
Came out more than I thought though £103........the washers cost a fortune but he always does his best for def2. Booked in in a couple of weeks so let's hope this solves the problem. Currently when I start it up from cold it's like a coal fired power station coming on line for the first time. Back in Cyprus which is warm today. UPDATE
Firstly having bought the copper seals off Dan I returned them....at £16 ish each after discount they went back and I bought some off the bay at £5 for 4 delivered. I watched / helped / hindered my local Indy this morning and replaced the rubber top seals and copper bottom injector seals. We cleaned up the seats in the head and reinstalled everything and what a difference it seems to have made it pulls well now. The ebay washers where softer than the original washers which came out so hopefully they will seal better. All the old seals had signs of blowing. However...... No's 1 & 3 had oil leaking out of the top rubber seals which had got worse since I started the thread. The plan was to do all 4 but he / we could not get the 4th injector out, the other 3 just wiggled / pulled out relatively easily but No 4 despite moving slightly left to right would not lift. He didn't want to lever it out and fracture the rocker cover so we left it as is and because it was dry in theory it did not need replacing. Having watched him I now I would like to replace No 4 myself which leads me to the question .. how are the injectors pulled out ? If they are stiff is there a special tool? Jones the pulling much better lol Also does anyone know the torque setting for the two stretch bolts that hold the injector clamps in place? Edit - Please ignore my earlier answer - my head was in TD5 mode not Puma. DOH !
I've just checked the WSM for the TDCi. Torque is exactly as Ian S1 has said. As far as removal is concerned, the manual simply says "remove the clamp", then "remove fuel injector" so no special tool or slide hammer is (supposedly) required. The JLR Workshop Equipment catalogue as far as I can see lists nothing. |

You will find these injectors will either just pull out, or they have stuck solid!
Get a spanner around the 2 flats and give it a wiggle from side to side. You need to show them who is boss but they will come out. If not, get a good pair of grips on them and try to pull as your turning it. It will come out in the end! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |
