Ok!

Just planning my trip back from OZ to attend this one!

I am sure you know, but as a thought there is also a great 'racetrack' on Anglesey... (I have driven that in anger in my Lotus Exige a few times!!) ...it would lend itself very well to a mass collection around the entire circuit...

Cheers, Pete Smile YOLO... You Only Live Once...

I am considering the option of greenlaning the week before, to take full benefit of the costs made to get there...
So anyone with nearby tracks, don't hesitate to send them to me Very Happy

Also considering the Beaulieu Hampshire meet in the trip (9th).

All, this is a fantastic idea guys and one that I truly hope you/we can pull off. I will support where I can, PM inbound...

Points to consider;

Gaydon; roadworks surrounding the junction 12 revamp for JLR have resulted in tearing up the front of the heritage site to put in a new large roundabout that will link to a new dual carriageway from junction 12 - really rules out the Heritage Centrw as a destination. However, think Pistonheads Sunday service, they used the main employees car park for a Sunday morning for people to turn up get a bacon buttie etc and it worked very well. JLR also supported with a fleet of special Jaguars as a bit of an attraction.

Solihull; unfortunately the current 3 shift system 7 days a week means there is no plant downtime that would allow the car park to be free'd up so getting parking close to Lode lane may be problematic. NEC is a good shout as certainly there smaller events would often leave a number of the car parks free on a weekend day. Unfortunately as a negative the NEC is a commercial entity with no ties to JLR and as such would charge you for the privilege.

Birmingham Airport; JLR has struck a deal with BHX to use one of their car parks as an additional employee car park during the week, this may be an ideal option as from the press release it eluded to 1000 spaces made available for staff.

Eastnor; shouldn't be forgotten about, perfect setting and ancestral link also any excuse to ask LRE to run some self drives round the estate Thumbs Up

Land Rover heritage fleet; if this gained momentum, it would be amazing to get a few of the specials to lead the convoy. Imagine following Hue 166 to lode lane?!

Magazines; being funded by the enthusiast community and easily contactable, writing into them especially LRO would likely gain support/sponsorship. Not saying I'd like them to take the limelight but for publicity they would be hard to beat.

Previous statements ref Land Rover contact; I agree it's too early and responses being very political (party line) are not surprising. I do however believe it is a opportunity too good to miss for them and as such I would not be downhearted at their current lack of enthusiasm.

Red Wharf bay; I really wouldn't worry about the salt particularly given the speed you would drive, it would be significantly less damaging than doing a mile on a gritted motorway in the winter. It is an ideal location with a lot of space and with a decent spring low water, would likely be long enough to get everyone to drive onto and park up briefly. Get Land Rover and LRE involved and they have a large number of mobile petrol driven pressure washers and I'm sure they'd happily man the gates to spray the cars that wanted on the way out.

Oh and don't forget Nortants 4x4 in your club list please Thumbs Up 2003 Zambezi Silver TD5 110 XS SW overland prepped....

Very usefull info, thx!

By the way - the website is ready for deployment, just still some minor testing to do to check the output on some special elements, but that is not really a biggy.
Will be registering an approriate domain this week and try to find a gap to actually deploy it.

Personally I'm very happy with the result: it will have
- manageable webcontant.
- press & news.
- newsletter.
- a way to register so we can start counting.

Red Wharf Bay would be the place...

To save the pressure washing logistical saga, lets just get JLR to build every Heritage with a galvanised chassis and charge us an extra £500! I am IN! Cool

At least, that would also protect THEIR Defender Heritage!!! YOLO... You Only Live Once...

We're up and running: www.DefenderTribute.com

Still some work to do on it, but it's life and we'll update/expand/improve as we go along...

So if you are still interested, just register and we can have some sort of count. The more numbers we gather, the bigger the leverage.

Fingers crossed Wink

Well done zone30

I'm registered... Thumbs Up

The 16th August is currently provisional but is
a. in the summer... Cool
and
b. doesn't look to clash with a major LR / 4X4 event...
and is
c. flexible if negotiations with JLR develop.

Sorry for my confusion here, giving July not August... Embarassed

Hopefully a summer trip to Wales will be well supported
there are probably circumstances that could alter this,
but for now the intention is to put the arrangements
around this date. SKIP

Middle of Summer? Can I suggest Autumn, so more people can make it? I am sure many people will be away mid August. Obviously setting a date is bound to be difficult, but ideally it should also coincide with something significant (e.g. 20 Dec). My tuppence. 2015 110 XS CSW Montalcino Red with Black Pack
