when I done mine ( 90 ) I cant remember any extra plugs or sockets , be honest cant remember looking for extra sockets
I just spliced into standard wiring and in one bit of corrugated tubing ran one pair to one side and one pair back up along inside rear cross member , I was using led lights so had no problems with extra load etc one tip if your doing it on a hard top is to measure/line up and cut hole on the drivers side first because of the door hinge , if start on the passenger side and leave too bigger gap between reverse light and new fog light when you get to drivers side the fit the extra reverse light the hinge can be in the way to get the same gap to look even both sides I very nearly got caught out by this |

As above mine was also spliced into the existing, I didnt see any plug and play bits unused on my current 90, but wasnt really looking. Nice simple job that works well, as you said make sure there lined up though nothing worse than them being wonky.

My 200tdi 110 and TD5 90 both had the wiring and connectors there already 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

If you do the double up mod you can make up a small loom with proper connectors leaving the original wiring 100% intact.
The are called 2 pole Econoseal connectors. |

Earlier vehicles were pre-wired to accommodate both RHD and LHD fog and reversing lights, making it very easy to double-up the rear lamps.
This was changed to dedicated RHD and LHD harnesses at some point during TD5 production. It's pretty easy to make-up the wiring to double-up the fog and reverse lamps - but, if you don't want to make them yourself - then, MUD UK make a 'piggy-back' loom for doubling-up rear lamps - http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/electri...-loom.html They're not ideal - but, they give you a good idea of how easy it is to make something suitable. . Thanks for those replies chaps plenty of food for thought there then. I had been looking for those piggy back connectors and had no luck, so thanks for reminding me of where. Do we reckon the wiring would take the extra load of another lamp, since I want to use standard filament units? Pete

Mine work perfectly fine and I've gone back to standard filament bulbs.

Assuming you are using bulbs, each lamp is 21W. Doubling up is 42W - at 12V this is 3.5A current draw.
The wiring to the rear lights is 1.5mm^2 - rated at 20A (bit less for long lengths). So there's plenty of spare capacity in the cable 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

I thought about making up a link loom , but your never going to remove the extra lights after you have cut holes in the bodywork anyway , so I didnt worry about splicing in to stardard loom , just soldered and heat shrinked with glue lined shrink to watherproof

yes unless you have a towing socket then could be 3 bulbs when towing , but still within limits still only 5.25a |

if your using led lamps then you dont need to cut a hole as large as the original hole as there is no bulb holder to sit in the hole as the back of the led lamp is flat Only thing is normally the lamp plinth is held by nuts on the back with only small hole you need access to the back , with a large hole you can tighten through the hole I cut large hole ( think it was about 30-40mm ) and done all wiring from outside without having get at the back of the lights |

Today I finally got round to fitting the pile of bits to do this that were sat on my workbench!
Click image to enlarge First I marked up the holes for the plinth fixings, drilled these with a 5.5mm bit, and then measured between the two using a ruler and marked the half way point. Here I used the 5.5mm to drill a pilot hole, and then used a hole saw to cut the large hole for the bulb holder to go through (I didn't have quite the right size, so I had to file it out slightly for it to fit nicely). Click image to enlarge Then I moved the fog lamp to the inner hole, and then screwed the new 2nd reverse lamp into the outer. Click image to enlarge Repeat for the other side, but the reverse is already the outer lamp so no moving them around. Click image to enlarge I then made a small loom up approx 55" long, using MudStuff piggy back connectors (so the factory loom didn't need to be modified on the vehicle), and the bulb connectors as supplied with the lights. Shrouded by plastic sheathing as per the existing loom. Click image to enlarge Then it's just a case of 'plug and play', making sure the connectors are to the right ones (hence I used coloured tape). Tidy up with zip ties and replace the mud shields. Click image to enlarge And test. Bobs your uncle, twice the reverse and fog illumination! Result NOTE: I have the LED reverse lamp bulbs as detailed in another thread, but I'm not sure these are actually any brighter than the filament bulbs.
