I thought that it was legal? I'm sure I've read on previous threads etc that Cats are only a legal obligation on petrol cars?

On a side note, fitted it myself with some help. Makes a nice rumble and a slight difference in power at low revs.

Although that was originally the case, it is not the case any more. If a cat was fitted when the vehicle left the factory, then a cat must remain fitted, irrespective of fuel type.

Just keep praying that the idiots in charge don't think of EGRs next!

It's only a problem if the MOT examiner notices that there isn't one fitted - its absence won't show up on the emissions test.

The Alive pipe allows the heat shields to be refitted above and around the place where the cat used to be, and from above the engine bay looks completely normal. Only by looking upwards from underneath does it become apparent that there is no cat.

If you're lucky he (or she) won't spot the difference.

If you have to refit one, get an original and remove the innards with a large masonry drill prior to fitting.
