Stacey, nice pictures. Cannot agree more with you and bpman that this years JLR stand was bland, not spirited at all. Hard proof of that simply comes by judging the small number of people wandering between the cars on display in comparison with the number of people on all other far busier stands. A grey new Discovery Sport is just not doing the trick. And the new decapitated Eeewok surely was no eye catcher either.
There was one outgoing model D4 still on display, pushed back in a corner, and while that remained interesting to take a good look at, we were shocked to see the very poor finish of the plastic molded RAI they had put on it. We actually spent far more time on the Toyota stand discovering and admiring a nice capable Land Cruiser. Actually the best part of the entire JLR stand this year was the gift shop they had put there. A far better and more interesting product selection than the disappointing shop at Solihull Experience center when we were there for the Defender line tour last December. I think LR are still thriving on their history, the looks and the capabilities of our good old cubes. Wonder how long that will continue because I cannot imagine that without a decent new capable Land Rover model in the next few years that people are going to remain so impressed, especially if reality of the current line up of Euroboxes like below will start to take over. The new XC90 probably will do at least as good, if not better, than this Land Rover Experience FFRR. Now, when my SVX was for a day at the dealer last week for a new fuel tank breather pipe, why did they tell me that at some point they might be interested to have my truck back for a little while to put it on display in their showroom? Two years ago we still had this to marvel at during the motor show here....
Click image to enlarge Today there is this to marvel at for those who like it.... Click image to enlarge The tickets that I have for this years motor show are remaining unused, that has never happened before in the last 10 years. No compelling reason for going really. With (once again) nothing on the JLR stand this year that makes it really worth visiting, at least there will be jewels like the green one here that are worth a better look.
Where are the good old pre-2016 days when crowds were queueing to get a seat in the Defenders on display? The best was the Geneva 2008 show, when right there and then I ordered and paid a cash deposit for the SVX. All history now. (no, not the SVX, just the cash deposit paying) It seems JLR won't even have a Defender 70th on display for their 70 years birthday, another missed chance. Read something in the press about a limited edition 2 door Range Rover being there. Quote below. Land Rover has a big anniversary in 2018, its 70th, and is planning something properly special for Geneva - a small production run of two-door Range Rover coupes, based on the full-size Rangie, and harking back to the 1970 original Range Rover (which only got its back doors in the 1980s). While it may not be the most future-relevant model in Geneva (although it will have a plugin hybrid model) expect a queue for the ignition keys when it’s launched. Only 999 will be built and they could cost as much as €300,000 each. Won't be a RR Classic though. So back to the green beauty below of a brand which knows how to ever further cherish and refine its classics and which this year also celebrates its 70th anniversary. Good to hear. Means I'm going to spend a bit more time at the JLR stand. Now I just hope they leave it there all the way until the last weekend, not like in 2015 when after a few days they removed the orange Adventure model from center stage and just took it entirely away in favor of I don't remember which new RR model. Comparable really, if you're going to pay £150k for a V8 Works Defender, £240k seems reasonable!
Money no object (as it is for some) I would have both in my garage James MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |

I'd like to know the pcp figures and what the guaranteed value would be at 3 or 4 years...it might be hard to see where the "value" is in these type of vehicles.
