Hi
Am new to this forum, and this may have been covered. I have just replaced my 2010 90 XS CSW with a 110 Utility XS as owing to my growing family, the 4 seat 90 was no longer practical. LR no longer fit carpets to them, which am sure is a cost cutting measure so the first thing I noticed was how much noisier the 110 was over my 90. I ordered and fitted a noise killer kit this aft, and if I'm being honest haven't noticed a huge amount of difference. There are a lot of areas which don't have any protection, including most of under the front seats, the rear of the front seat box and areas under the rear seats. Is it worth me getting some dynamat xtreme and some tape to fill in the gaps or are my expectations a bit high? Whilst I'm at it, I was thinking I may as well do the roof and doors which isn't covered with noise killer kit. The other thought I had would be to rip out the noisekiller kit altogether and start again with the Dynamat? With regard to carpets, has anyone any experience of the exmoor kits? I see the CSK lads have fitted the LR ones and have yet to price these up but expect them to be a lump. Cheers |

As some one who has fitted Dynamat Extreme to all but one of my cars over the last 13 years and now having switched to Silent Coat for the 90, I would have no problem recommending Silent Coat as a more cost effective alternative. If there is a difference, it's nominal.
My 90 had the Noise Killer kit fitted when I bought it and I wasn't overly impressed with it, so I added lots of silent coat dampening material and acoustic foam, with good effect. I haven't completed the sound proofing but having done the rear tub and door, there is a noticeable improvement. The measured difference isn't really any lower because the engine ad gearbox seem to dominate, but there was a reduction in noise coming from the back and sides. The soundproofing work I have done so far is detailed in the link in my signature. EDIT: Maybe better to add direct links http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06...age-1.html http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06...-door.html http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06...r-tub.html http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

Cheers Mark d Had a look at your sound deadening and think my best route is to order some silent coat and apply it to the doors, under the noise killer kit, all the areas not covered by the noise killer kit and possibly the roof. Biggish job on. Did the carpet fit ok on top of it all? Thanks again. |

I got mine off ebay, it comes from Car Audio Direct who charge silly postage to get it across to this part of the UK when bought direct from them but give free postage when bought through the auction site they have to pay fees to http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

Hi Windyhill, the carpet went back OK. The Silent Coat didn't make much difference and the Noise Killer was already in when I bought it. I can take some close up photos of particular areas if you want to see finer detail. I think the only real area worth noting was the metal trim at the rear door sitting slightly higher at the front (inside) edge. I'm hoping to do the roof and sides when the weather warms up but I think the biggest difference will come with the bulkhead and foot wells. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |
