my parents fitted the earlier Series 2/3 rubbers to the vents and they have not had a bother at all. My mum did some research before and found thread on a forum about them. I will try and get some more info on the subject but I will not see them till Saturday, due to the shifts I am on this week. But hope it helps you. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I fitted the Series 3 style rubber seals to my 02' Defender (or one side at least). They are not a great fit on the defender as there is a bulge in the recess for the wiper hole above (may be different for pre-02 vehicles as the wiper spindles are round rather than oval I believe). The ones I got (OEM rather than genuine)and seemed quite compliant off the vehicle but once fitted they are hard to compress fully which results in a lot of force being needed to close the vent fully.
The other side still has the original foam on the flap itself. When it comes to replacing again I think I will try a medium density neoprene foam stuck to the back of the vent. Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

There are mixed reviews I know, and no right or wrong answer - just gathering intelligence at this stage. It's far better to learn from the mistakes and successes of others! |

Genuine parts foam ones on mine. Rubber ones look gash in my opinion but each to their own.
Foam ones are also a lot easier to replace, not needing to be glued to the bulkhead. |

I've always found the rubber ones too hard which makes sealing the flap difficult. The foam ones are a big improvement.

For rubber try softening in warm water to make it easier to stretch. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender
