Yeah, the chap who did the repair said we’d probably still be able to see it when it was done, but as I knew the screen surround was going to be getting painted when the repairs were done I figured the screen might break taking it out anyway. so I got it repaired to stop it cracking any further (as it didn’t cost me anything through my insurance) and I can put a new one in when it’s painted Ray

Picked up the black painted bits this afternoon so obviously it’s raining
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Saturday might be ok to start stripping one side if the weather people have got it right this time. Ray My build thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17615.html |

It finally stopped raining at about 3 so I had a chance to start stripping it down which didn’t go too badly To be fare. I’m quite happily surprised at how little rust there is on the chassis for a 16 year old defender that had a ruff life before I got it and hasn’t really had any sort of treatment on it!
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Sand paint and wax the chassis tomorrow then build up this side and then start on the other. Ray My build thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17615.html |

I'm the stranger? Not seen you on here in ages and now you're posting on every thread! All ok here Ray, thank you. It would be good if I can get some kind of event sorted before Summer ends. I think we could all benefit from some time out. I bet Emma loves having the table dressed in Defender parts |

Fair point bits on the table isn’t that bad....... when we renovated our last house we pulled up the old flagstone floor to damp proof, so while the concrete base was down I moved an engine into the living room for a while so it was nice and warm to work on she’s very tolerant with me Ray

Not wishing to sound like a second hand car sales man but there really was only light surface rust on the chassis I sanded up the surface rust and used the por15 metal prep and it came up well.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Then some of their rust proof paint Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I think it looks pretty snazzy! I’ll give it a week to dry when the panels are back together then spray some clear wax over it. Ray My build thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17615.html |

It was pretty safe on the ramp and stand (it also had a jack under it too) I wanted it high enough to get under But needed the wheel of so I could paint the end of the axle and chassis.
The weather has been kind again so I managed to get most of the first side back together Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Either tonight or tomorrow the other side will be stripped and then it’s painting the other chassis leg the painting bit is rather horrible and messy.
