I started in a Mini Clubman 1275GT. It felt like the fastest thing in the universe and went round corners like an F1 car. After that I bought a Ford Capri 2.8i Special off my brother. Also felt really fast but went around corners like a rugby ball!!! Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

My first car was two cars. A Mini 1000 with a dead engine I got for virtually nothing and a Mini 1100 with a heavily dented rear end I got for actually nothing. I put the 1100 engine in the Mini 1000 and my first car was born.
Second car was a Mini Cooper, third a Mini City, fourth a Mini Designer (the third and fourth in this picture...) Fifth was an Alfa 145 Cloverleaf that I got rid of after a few months because it kept breaking down at great expense, went back to the third Mini (in the picture above) for a while. Then the Smart, the Bipper van and then the Defender. So what's that, eight in all? Best performer was the Mini Designer in the picture above, we did 100k miles in that and the worst it did to us was blow the headlights on the A303 one night which I fixed my pressing things under the bonnet pretending I knew what I was doing! |

1973 swb series 3.
I bought it with no front end, engine or gearbox when I was 16 and spent that year doing it up. Firstly I put a 2.25 petrol in then got bored and chucked a 3.5 v8 in it instead. |
