I still have the first car I ever bought, a Series One 2 litre diesel.

I've owned it for 52 years in December.

The memories it carries are priceless.

Was primarily used to gain 2 years NCB, keep running costs down, and save me dosh to later defy my parents by purchasing a 110 Twisted Evil

Mine was bought for £160 in 1985 at the age of 18, a 1967 VW beetle 1500cc - MAE 744F. It had 6v electrics and the headlights were like candles, not that that was an excuse for it's demise. Unfortunately at that age my enthusiasm far outweighed my ability and it lasted 6 weeks before i ran out of talent and rolled it Shocked Rolling Eyes

Mine was a “one careful lady owner” Signal Yellow Ford Fiesta Mark1 1.1L reg GMS 225S, bought from my mother. She sold it to me on buying a Fiesta 1.3 SuperSport in White with grey/blue go-faster stripes, that the salesman was condescending enough to advise her that he thought it was way too powerful for a lady driver Rolling with laughter The SuperSport was the predecessor to the XR2 which she later owned, but I had moved on to an MG Metro by then. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

As posted on page 1 of this thread, mine was a 1966 Triumph 200 Mk 1 Estate which I bought for the princely sum of £100, which was quite cheap but at the time it had frozen solid and popped its core plugs. I had inspected it carefully and there didn't seem to be any other damage, so a new set of core plus and it was good to go. I bought the car before I bought a camera so have very few photos of it:

(If anyone is wondering, no, I didn't drive through that!)

The disturbing this was that it was only about 10 years old when I bought it, and it was essentially a rusty old banger. My Disco2 is now twice that age, and my Defender is 40% older than the Triumph was when I bought it, and I don't consider either to be a relic.

The Triumph was a great car but the tin worm killed it in the end. I replaced it with a twin-wheel Transit because the price was right - I paid £35 in a sealed bid tender for it, and won! It had had a brand new engine from Ford a few weeks earlier too! It, too, had tin-worm, but after a lot of caving trips and some remedial work I sold it and it financed my first Land-Rover.

The First Land-Rover of many was an 80", ostensibly a 1953, but actually a blend of 1949 and 1953 vehicles. It was by far the most expensive vehicle I had ever bought (out of a total of three then) at £350. It was ex-Cave Rescue and I drove it home at night in one of the harshest winters we'd had for years with snow drifts taller than the vehicle in the hills. It had no heater when I bought it, and the draught strips on the door tops were missing. It was almost indescribably cold (i was stopping at pubs every few miles to thaw my hands under the hot-air dryers) but it got me 150 miles home. I am delighted to say that I still have this vehicle although it requires some major chassis work before it goes on the road again. I'll wager it is worth more than £350 now too, even with holes in the chassis!

That was the beginning of it really, and the succession has included another 80", and 86" (both of which I still have), a Series II 88" (sold), a Mk V Cortina (sold), a Mk 2 Astra (sold), a Rover 416 (sold), a Rover 420 (sold), a Disco 2 and a TDCi Defender (both current), oh, and a 1938 4.1/4 litre Derby Bentley (sadly also sold). Also a 1952 Bedford OLBD lorry (sold), and a 1949 Fordson E27N tractor (sold). And a 1961 Iron Fairy VI mobile crane (not sold).

My 1st car was a rover metro rio, Bought the car for £180 and had it for 2 years. It was a right giggle when going around the arounderabout with the choke still fully out Laughing One strong little car it was! I would put it in the same class as my 306.
I ended up building a fast one a few years later, The 306 forum pushed me through the project, as i was going to bin it off many times. It was one of the most view thread, on the other projects. Shame the project became a money pit. So go to shot for the defender. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Sadly true - back in the 80's I had a mkII Transit with a 3ltr Capri V6/gearbox/rear axle combination - that surprised a few people.
