2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Stornoway Grey
Mid Wales laning trip
Would people be interested in going on a laning trip in Mid Wales?

TJ101 and I were up there this weekend and covered some good lanes suitable for D2s that wish to stay shiny and straight without scratches. That's not to say they were all easy lanes, some had some good axle articulations and what could be tricky rocky climbs in the wet or dry. the views were stunning and it was a lovely setting and made a great two days for us.

If we looked to run say two groups of 4 vehicles. Each group led by a Puma 110. We would offer a one day package, that is to say a meal Sat night and accommodation and guided routes on the Sunday running from say 0900hrs until 1600hrs. You would require your own vehicle insurance for the lanes but we would provide TPL as its an organised group.

As some of you are aware I run a non profit making 4x4 company aimed at setting up winch challenges and escorted driving days. This day would be run along these lines under my company banner as non profit making but we would aim to cover the guides accommodation and fuel costs.

Dates wise, we can do something to suit the interest if there is any.

It would prove a good way for us to all get out and about and meet fellow D2 owners and use the vehicles for what they are designed by.

It would cater for all levels of experience so those with no off road experience should not be put off, there will be help on hand. we would also provide all the recovery gear although you would be advised to bring a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Cheers

i can vouch for the attention to detail James has on his events. I have marshalled on his winch challenge events and done drive rounds in Devon.

Loads of firms charge to guide people for laning trips. It's fair enough if people either don't want to be bothered to navigate/don't know where is legal and where isn't or whatever other reason. You can't knock them for doing it Karl. It's not something I'd do (in the UK anyway) but lots do.

Yes, though the OP says its not for profit ie its not a commercial venture. Seems fair enough to me - though if the peoples details who go on it are used for commercial reasons I would say not on.

The offer that JST and TJ101 are offering by my reading of the post is that all you have to do is turn up and drive. They will book your hotel, book the evening meal, and sort the routes out. If you are new to laning or are unsure of the legalities of lanes then this looks like a no brainer of a deal. THey do all the research and recces to ensure the lanes are passable and non damaging. So to pay a small premium for this service isn't that much to ask. As already stated it's non profit making.

THis is no different to people paying companys to show them around Morocco/Tunisia/Pyranees. For some reason that is acceptable.

Fekete, you have said that you are doing the same for some friends. Did you not think of offering it on here for others to join you. Or are you frightened of meeting new people?? We all have the same interest, that is why we are here. Well some are a bit more anal with the polishing than me but each to their own. Rolling with laughter
This way people from across the UK can come together and enjoy a good days laning and meet new people. You never know someone who goes on this trip could become a friend for life. But if you have enough friends then well done you 110 D250 SE HT

Non profit making it may be.... but still under his company name ? . charging people for an event under a company name is still advertising on the forum. NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY

Only under his company name for the TPL, as it's an organised event. I'm assuming that as you are leading a group, wether for reward or not you have the relevant insurance in place to cover you. Ignorance is no defence, you as the leader have a duty of care to all those that you are leading around. The days of just going out on an organised event with nothing in place are long gone. 110 D250 SE HT
