Another way to check for head gasket problem is leave the vehicle overnight to cool.
In the morning remove the radiator cap & start engine & check for air bubbles in the radiator. |

I assume the chequer plate is riveted on ??? if so just drill out the rivets remove & have them powder coated/painted |

It maintains a fixed pressure in the cooling system, and if does not do so it will lower the boiling point ... |
