OK, there are many lovely options to change your standard seats for something better. I have the standard XS heated half leather and they are ok, but you sit on them, not in them, they don't hug you, and if you recline the seat even slightly, the head rest is miles away from your head and neck and it's dangerous and uncomfortable on longer journeys.
I absolutely love the look of the Exmoor E Seats, as they have a seat riser built in so you can still access the seat boxes without removing them, and can have LR seat heater plugs installed. Plus, they look really nice. http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/store/defender...etail.html Then there is LRI who do the Corbeau variety in a number of options, which looks great, but you have to unbolt the seat to access the seat boxes. http://www.lrisolutions.co.uk/index.php/lr...0-new.html Then there is Ruskin - which I have sat on and are lovely, but they are much more money each http://ruskindesign.co.uk/ So - What do you have and what are the plus sides and minus sides? I love the figure hugging nature of the high base type but even I tend to slide out the car, so is the low base a better option or would you get used to the high base? Do the buckets support your head better than the stock ones? Is the seat base longer to provide more under-leg support? The standard seats are very short. I went for the Recaro Cross sportster seats in the front of my 90. For me they have improved support all round without having sides too high to climb over when getting into.
No real down sides as far as I'm concerned Puma 2.2 90 Stationwagon |

The low sided base of the LR spec Recaro is good to climb into. My truck is raised and I don´t have (want) side steps. We would probably be unhappy with high sided buckets in this combination, but a standard height landy with steps would make it easier to use high sided buckets. Worth trying one before buying ´cos you climb in and out of a car twice as often as you drive it...
We´ve done many long journey in ours. The back and headrest wraps around you, keeping you warm and comfy, and giving good head and back supprt. The seat literally coaches you to sit upright and healthy. You have contact to the seat all the way up. However when rolled back in a relaxed "passenger sleeping" position, the headrest isn´t enough on it´s own to hold your head. A cushion or folded jacket is still needed. Don´t expect wonders there.
A big bonus over the standard seats. The bases are alot longer. Probably the longest I have experienced in any vehicle. Additionally, the seat feel like they give you a couple of cm more runner length. I sit further back (more legroom) and don´t need the runner extenders I had in my previous 2.4. I´m average height (5 11") and always found the extra height that the runner extenders brought annoying. No one mentioned Scheelman seats yet?
Available in different finishes cloth, leather heated seats etc. Also you can still access the battery box without completely removing the seat Side support is very good, so good on twisting roads/off-road.. Comfortable as well. You need to sit in them because what suits one persons body type will not necessary fit another person as well. Edited to add this LINK Brendan |

Might be Oz-centric but shows you what should be available from Recaro - http://www.arb.com.au/products/internal-st...aro-seats/

Strongly suggest you first sit in them, installed in a Defender that is. My collegue has them in his Hunter edition, and you sit much much higher in these Scheelman seats than in standard or premium seats, and surely very much higher than in the SVX Recaros. I am of medium length and those Scheelmans are way too high already for me already, have to duck to properly look out of the windshield, let alone someone who is well above 1.80m or 6 feet tall. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Eric, we do sit in Scheelmann seats on a regular basis as they are fitted in our white 90 White 90 does local runs, forays into Germany plus some green lanes.
Barbara and I normally use items ourselves before recommending them, that way we can talk from our own personal experiences. Occasionally we rely on the experience of some of our close friends who have used the items for their opinions. We have some items fitted to our Defenders which are not readily available in the UK as we like to assess them for ourselves rather then just rely on manufacturers figures. Am about to place an order with a new supplier to us for some items to fit on our new 90. Only when I am happy with the items will we bring them into the UK to sell. So in our various vehicles we have a set of Exmoor trim (not sure of model) about 10 years old, 2 sets of heated LR seats one set part leather, one set of Scheelmann seats and have a set of take off standard LR seats which we will either sell or use as a display if I ever get around to using them. As I said before
Then there is the question of budget, good aftermarket seats do not come cheap. I was at a conversion company about 3 years ago and they were moaning about the quality of some aftermarket seats they had bought. Yes they had been cheap to buy, however probably the kindest thing to say about those seats were that they were a complete waste of money! Brendan |
