Bumping this thread - I may have missed a post.

But can anyone confirm that the gearbox, transfer case AND diffs all take the same oil?

Thank you Very Happy 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Yes. I used Millers Oils TRX 75W90 (5252). You'll need a lot of it if doing all gearboxes and axles.

My Transfer box & Gearbox is spoilt with Millers CRX 75W-90 NT+ Fully Synthetic gear oil šŸ˜œ.

The Diffs get cheap Dinosaur Juice changed annually.

Is this the same for a 2014 2.2 puma? All oils the same? Gearbox, transfer box and both diffs?

My Defender is 2.2 2015 so I think your 2.2 2014 should be the same.

On another recommendation I went for GL4 for gearbox and GL5 for transfer and diffs. To be on the safe side. Iā€™m sure the gearbox would be fine, but who knows. Been trouble free so far and want to keep it that way!!

Tools recommended
Great comments thanks chaps. Bit of a basic request, As a new owner can anyone recommend what tools to have as a necessity and also recommend a pretty universal socket set?

Tools needed are actually on the 1st post of this thread.
However my gearbox plugs are Allen Keys (also called LN or hex) not torx. Cant remember the exact size but a guess would be 8mm. A set with a size range up to 10mm would be good to have.

Probably any decent set will do, tightening torque for drain plugs is not that high.

Edit: I should also add that also the fill plugs should not be over tightened. It is good practice to open the fill plug first before opening the drain plug. You do not want to drain the hole and then find that you cannot fill it up! 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

This is a great thread and thanks to all who have contributed ..Does anybody have any tips/tricks equipment to reduce the mess when changing the oils? I only have a driveway to work on and if i spilt oil on he cobbles i would have to go into witness protection.
Does anybody use a funnel and hose to catch the oil from the engine ?

I have never had an issue, large drain tank from Draper. The only time I stoped oil over the parking place was when it was draining from the drain pan/tank into a bottle to dispose of and I kicked it over.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

Be careful with funnels, it is very likely that the flow from the sump will overwhelm the funnel outlet (especially if there's a hose attached). You're usually better off with a drain pan with a large catchment area, but do be careful moving or emptying it when full.

Thanks!
I was thinking more in general rather than the specific ones for oil change nuts
