The biggest difference you can make is to change the wing to air-box intake duct. The current one is highly restrictive. Next you can modify the existing airbox. If you are changing the intercooler then replacing the existing intercooler hoses with silicon ones would be a good idea.

Have a read of this topic. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46581.html?highlight=nugget

And this one https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic25864.html

Deleting the EGR won’t give you better airflow, but will stop your engine, in particular the inlet manifold, gunking up. Noting easier to do on a 2.4, complex on a 2.2 as requires DPF removal as well. To delete you will need an engine ECU map.

Intercooler upgrade on a std map won’t make much difference, unless you are working hard in a hot climate.

hi Ian, ill just add a little to the egr on the 2.2, as its something I was checking up on the other day ..
this is with a bas map and dpf delete... if that is done then the egr valve is effectively shut, but it still has to have an electrical connection maintained as disconnecting may cause issues elsewhere.. not sure what a delete would involve but I was told that without the electrical connection id likely get issues,

Sorry for creating confusion Andy, by EGR delete I did mean leaving it in situ and mapping it out as you highlighted. Noting at present a UK MOT involves a visual check on the presence of an EGR, so removing risks a failure.

My understanding is that the 2.2 DPF regen functions involve the use of the EGR. Therefore if you want to map out the EGR you also need to map out the DPF. Also if you want to map out the DPF you also map out the EGR. I believe this also means you need to physically remove the DPF , else it will block with soot !
As I say this is my understanding and if Pete at BAS, Ian at IRB or anyone else with expertise in this area can confirm/correct my understanding I would greatly appreciate it .

it was Peter I was talking to Ian, and I was confused by the term delete... on my m7 transit which had a 2.4 engine I got a egr delete.. that allowed me to disconnect it , but I did leave it in place..
im been told to leave electrically connected and leave well alone on the defender even if it isn't working so im going along with that... Thumbs Up

edit.. the other thing which was causing me some confusion, was the fact that there are patches for both egr and dpf sold separately on the site..

Some 2.2’s were rest of world spec without DPF, so perhaps that’s why DPF and EGR options are available separately.
