Replacing the plug to the cluster doesn't fix the problem. The problem exists on the printed circuit board inside the cluster, and opening the cluster to repair it does carry a risk of damaging the needle stepper motors.
Other than the logged cluster fault what you've done is fine. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

You wouldn't need an entire plug, probably just a couple of terminals with wires to refit where yours have been cut off. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I can supply the pins (with or without wire attached) for the cluster plug
Let me know if that helps Martin 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Thanks Martin. Yes that might be great! Might you also be the man to look at the repair to the clocks? Or is this something that can be done at home?

What vehicle do you have, what year ?
It could be a loose connection on the ignition Also have a read of this topic https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic80890...t=ignition Covers relays, fuses, wiring, earths to check etc Last edited by Ianh on 4th May 2022 7:41pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Hi Josh, I have a VERY similar problem on my 2012 2.2 Puma. I have checked all the fuses and relays and they are all fine. There are a lot of people on here who have vastly more experience and knowledge than me, but what I have found and you may have similar symptoms, is that if you crank it over straight through from ignition on, with no waiting for glow plugs, etc, you’ll get about 2 seconds of the engine turning over and firing a few times, but then dying. The more you hesitate after ignition on, the less cranking time you’ll get, until you don’t get anything.
I have disabled the immobiliser using a Nanocom, but to no effect. I suspect that in my case it is something to do with either the transponder coil around the ignition barrel and or the 10AS unit which I’m going to send off to be checked very shortly. Maybe you have a similar problem? I’m going to make a phone call to Technozen-Electronics tomorrow and see what they say. I did try Remote Key, but they never get back to me. I will let you know what they say. |

Does the interior light come on when you open the driver/passenger door? |

I’m not saying that this is your problem, but it looks like the 10AS may be at fault. It seems to be a difficult one to diagnose easily without multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc but it’s relatively easy to remove and send off. I’ve attached a photo from the Technozen web site. He lists one of the faults on the 10AS being the courtesy light not working. It’s not that expensive to send it off and at least that way it can be checked and fixed if there’s a problem.
