Best 2-stroke?
Okay - I'm taking the plunge and experimenting with 2-stroke in the diesel for my Puma this winter. Have read about this in other threads but get mixed messages. So -
Can anyone recommend type/manufacturer for the oil?
Also interested in this Forte stuff - any advice on that?

for a diesel additive to be of any use the benefeits need to be measurable otherwise its just an expensive snake oil/placebo situation. There are thousands of posts on this subject across the net so I suppose you can only go by people's experiences and then make a decision.

I decided to use 2SO on a previous vehicle and after 6 months I saw better mpg, stronger performance and an end to 3 years of engine problems (gunged up sensors mostly) so in my situation it was measurable. I have used it from new in my 110 so I can't prove its worth from a 'before and after' basis (whoops ! B'n'A is banned phrase on Def2 Laughing )

As regards spec in my experience Jaso FB or FC is fine - whichever you can get cheapest. There are debates over the pros and cons of both but to avoid boring you any more the 2.4 Puma has no DPF and its CAT is a simple 2 stage affair so I don't think it matters which one you use. Hope that helps but on the subject of 2SO you'll find that opinions are definately arseholes - everyone will have one !

I gave the 2 stoke a go about a week back. To be honest I cannot comment on power or economy, however I have noticed that the engine sounds quieter and smoother. I used cheap mineral based oil, low ash which will burn completely away. Doubt that @ 300mills in 70 litres will cause any problems if it reduces friction in the fuel system it may actually reduce heat. If it increases the cetane valve of the fuel it has to be a good thing.Maybe someone with more knoledge could comment. Thumbs Up

I do 200/1 and use Yamaha outboard oil on both my TD5 and Puma. Yes both seem to run better and make less noise. No smoke and smell lots better. I would not run either without again.

I would like to add that I also have no smoke before and after ( opps Whistle ) adding the oil. I have a Alive remap it has never blown any smoke, no visible difference between it and standard map!

yep XS pete thats what I'm using at the moment cos I got 5 bottles for € 5 each from a local farmer's co op and that's cheap !

i use it, may be placebo but is 'does' sound quiter, i dont really monitor mpg as it would just annoy me!

Ze defender maybe do a normal google search to find out the differences between the two as there are reams of techno stuff on it.

The way I understand it is that FB = mineral based low ash. FC= semi synthetic and even lower ash than FB. The FC however may not burn as fully as the FB being semi synth although its recommended for DPF engines due to less ash residue which to me translates as swings and roundabouts so I buy whatever is the cheapest ! Wink

Personally I use the cheapest JASO FB mineral oil that I can get a deal on. I prefer the Motul from OPIE oils and it is a good price Thumbs Up

Okay - have finally settled on FB not FC (to protect my cat).
Motul 100 Motomix 2T was my choice (I like Motul products, as you may have gathered)
I'll use 250 ml per 65 l fill-up (about 1:250).

... but hang on - I've got Castrol Act evo 2T in my garage and it's also supposed to be "mineral" and its FC???
