2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Stornoway Grey
Newbie:- essential upgrades
Evening everyone, pleased to be a new member of the Club although at the moment I am without a Defender, so to speak. However the situation is soon to be resolved with the delivery of my new vehicle a 110 CSW XS on Friday/ Saturday.
After some advice please, what are the must have accessories and alterations to the vehicles and what are the items one step to far.

Thanks Thumbs Up

I'll join you on this one, although I am only taking delivery in January. On my essentials list is a remap and waxoil treatment (or similar).

Hi Citydriver,

Have spent the last week doing some research on the remap subject and spoke to GARY from Alive tonight and I was very convinced by his professionalism and knowledge. May be buying from him in the future and will report on my findings.

I am thinking similar after doing some reading. Would however preferably do some more work (intercooler, piping, exhaust, filter), but want to check how that will go down with the warranty... Guess it won't really, so might have to start with just the mapping.

Hi JB

What are you going to use the vehicle for ?

Daily transport, offroad, towing, overland etc. Knowing your intended use will let the forum members give you better advice Thumbs Up

Congrats on the new purchase and post some pictures when it is delivered.

Bob

Evening Bob,

Very gentle daily use, and a towing vehicle. Have loved the look of the defender for lots of years, never had the opportunity to own one. Not sure on what the future will be but if I like, then I will by something older to off road.

As for a remap I would not do it again. sorry

JB and CD there are literally hundreds of after market items you could add to your new prized vehicles.

It really is down to personal choices.

One good idea is to get the cavities as well as the underside waxoyled

Another thing is to protect your new expensive prize possession. Consider having a Trakker fitted. Along the lines of protection consider taking off the silly folding side steps and fitting rock and tree sliders and rear bumperettes. Helps to protect your vehicles in car parks etc

Good luck and enjoy

I agree with the underbody treatment - must get mine done soon Thumbs Up

As far as remaps, wait and see how the vehicle suits your needs. I use mine everyday and it goes offroad as often as I can. I do not tow. I have seen no need (yet) for a remap but it may go on the list for when the warranty expires.

The one thing that I have found to be the best investment for everyday use is the Noisekiller kit I fitted last year. It does cut the noise levels even though the Puma is not that noisey to start with.

Good luck Thumbs Up

I agree with a waxoyl, but was told when I bought my 110 that a remap would invalidate my warranty. I can't work out if you are buying new or used, but if you are buying new its a serious consideration.
I do plenty of towing with mine in standard form and its fine, I think other than rustproofing there is nothing you "must have" on the vehicle. They are great just out of the box. 2011 110 USW

The vehicle is new. The noise kit sounds a good idea as I found the demo a little noisy not being used to defenders yet.

Mine is new as well, but will be strictly used for weekend trips and the occasional trip to the continent. Noise is not something is easily get annoyed with, I am used to old bangers. The waxoil seems good, and the tracker was something is was also considering - any tips for that one?

For protection I already added the rear bumper/step instead of just the small step. That should protect enough for now, I think? I guess a remap is a bit of a gamble with the warranty, but one I will probably take.

Anyone bothered with adding some lights?
