Dropped the defender into my local amazing Indie (Vanstones of Launceston) to have the rear chequerplate on the crossmember removed and the cross member resprayed ready for the next project
Good to see the rear crossmember in such great condition after 4.5 years under the chequerplate. I did make sure the crossmember was well treated prior to fitting the chequerplate and lots of ACF 50 applied during that time too. Click image to enlarge Checking setting out dimensions for the feet and noticed the length is not as advertised. Flatdog claim it is 2.8m long. The one delivered is 75mm shorter, which is disappointing as it would look better on the truck if it aligned with the front windscreen and the rear panel. Quite fiddly to attach the leg feet clamp as there is insufficient space to get a ratchet spanner on to the nut. Defender 110 XS SW Puma - 2011 Defender 110 XS SW - 56 |

Most manufacturers seem to claim 2.8m long but the length is then tuned to follow the rake of the screen not the actual length of the rack....
Safety devices do the same with their per mine below. Click image to enlarge |

Thanks Matt110,
This clarifies, but does not help make the roofrack 2.8m. I emailed Flatdog, awaiting their response. Defender 110 XS SW Puma - 2011 Defender 110 XS SW - 56 |

Holding the indicator stalk on for RH manoeuvres has become wearisome. Hence a delivery van turned up today with this:-

Got the grease gun out for some routine maintenance - spare wheel carrier got some attention and the squeaky brake pedal. Mundane but satisfying.
Less mundane was taking a phone call from a local specialist in response for a quote for a new clutch and output shaft š³š³š³ |
