Engine heater
Turns out the 3L petrol has an engine heater to warm the engine up, I was a bit surprised to find that out this morning. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

How does it work? Mine has a pre heat option in the remote app, it starts the engine, but it seems to run much more quietly than when it’s running normally. No steam out of the exhaust on a cold morning either. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

On my D240 it heats the cabin too and starts the heated front and rear screens - all started from the remote start function on the app. There’s no separate exhaust like you had on your FBH in Disco3 and 4 and various RRS’s - it exhausts via the DPF and normal exhaust on the diesels. I’ve found on the 2.0ltr engine that it uses about 0.5ltr of diesel for the 30 minute cycle.
Recently I’ve set it going 30 minutes before I want to use the car and even the side windows have been defrosted with the planned temperature (which you can change by tapping on the desired temperature on the app page) set at 20C - the temperature gauge is usually up to halfway between cold and normal position at the end of the cycle but the climate control won’t cut in until the temperature is up to nearl the “normal” position so I’ve used the butt roasters and heated steering wheel for the first 4-5 miles of the trip.
On really cold days I’ve only had one problem - even with the wipers set to the winter park position and defrosted by the screen heater the rubber blades seem to be to be very hard rubber that even when I’ve cleaned any remaining ice from them grate across the glass - might have to see if I can get hold of some better winter compound blades for next winter as I’m sure that they could scratch the screen. I also wasn’t sure how well the washer nozzles would cope with hard frosts, but using 50/50 water and -10C screen wash fluid (and we’ve been down to -11c here some nights) so far fronts and rear washers have always been unfrozen and my car doesn’t have heated nozzles. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Not sure, on the petrol it looks like a small version of the D3/4 fuel burning heater. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Tim

Are you saying that when you use the remote app to start the car / heating..

1. It runs a heater - rather than the engine?
2. It also activates heated screen?
3. It activates heated seats too?

Do you just have the standard car - without the optional heater?

THANKS

Simon
1) No it runs the engine
2) yes if the outside temperature is below 5C IIRC the front and rear screen on my car defrost in a couple of minutes
3) No, heated seats only start when you activate them with the push down / rotary knob.

My car is a standard First Edition with no extra fuel burning heater option, I just use the remote starter on the app. Of course it’s possible that the dealer sold me a car with the optional extra heater and forgot to charge me or list it on the invoice, but I’m certain I don’t have it! The car was bought from dealership stock already built it wasn’t a factory order by me. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Thanks

From earlier posts - I thought it was full engine running - but your comment about exhausting through DPF had me confused.

It is the full engine that runs, it’s basically idling, using the remote start function of the app, it isn’t loud but not silent like Gareth reckons his 3ltr is! There is no auxiliary fuel powered heater like my 3 RRS’s and the TDv8 FFRR had. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

The cars have fuel burning heaters to get the engine temperature up to operating temp asap. Clearly the FBH will only operate when its cold.
To pre heat the cab the engine starts and if cold enough the FBH will kick in. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Not there on 3.0 D. I can confirm mine is remote engine start only. It is so very quiet I had to get close to check it was running. After 30 mins, cab was warm. No auto heated seats though.

The auto screen heaters below 4 degrees are configurable in my vehicle settings. Always a bugbear on Disco because they came on by default and put more strain on an already highly stressed electrical system.

Is there anything on the dash about the MHEV system?

The fuel burning heater was an option in the configuration when I was looking, possibly standard on higher spec cars. Certainly not got one in my base spec D200.

The MHEV system has no user-facing functionality, it operates invisibly. The only noticeable element I’ve found is how quickly you can pull away after the start/stop system has activated. That’s all the MHEV is, just a more advanced start/stop system.
