Why all the comments about how Defenders will be going up in value? How is this good? You mean you'd seriously want to part with your Defender after the DC100 comes out — probably never to be able to own a real Landy ever again?

At one point (i'm not sure if its still going ahead) the Disco was going to be dropped in 2015 because of electronic problems and then the Defender would replace it with the new model. Jack |

I believe the Disco was also originally supposed to replace the Defender, but that didn't work out as buyers still wanted the Defender, so the Disco became less of a utility vehicle after all. There's probably a lesson here.

I must be getting old (or older) but the Double Cab looks half decent in the picture on Pistonheads.
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/news/default.asp?storyId=24243 Still saving for a 90 from the last production run of the current Defender though ![]() Bob |

Actually, now that I think about it, if this was called a Discovery, the response would likely be much less negative (accounting for the fact there will always be negativity with change). The fact that this is being made into a replacement for the Defender just feels completely wrong. The design philosophy (and presumably the internals) is just totally opposite to what made the Defender great.

Look, the brain trust at Land Rover COULD have just taken the existing Defender and fixed it.
i.e. brought into line with all required legislations, and fixed the lovely "special features" we all put up with. Yes, that would mean a new chassis - but design it to accept after market accessories. Have the rear crossmember exposed & pre-drilled for all the extra stuff we enjoy. Make it so that water stays out!! Get the lights slightly brighter than candles Fix the driving position & the heavy clutch Make the doors slightly thicker than paper. But keep the "feel" of the existing Defender. What they seem to have come up with is a cheap Disco. Now as the Disco came in as a cheap RR, and then climbed ever upwards in price, and the gaylander was brought in for the non wellie boot mob & the school run, the new Evoque sort of clobbers the Disco, any new Defender HAS to stand alone, or it is just overlapping in style & price, much of the rest of the LR / RR range. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

My wife thought this was the new facelifted version of her Yeti,,, so that's one sale they'd make.
![]() Not sure it's the target audience though. |

The DC100 has lost the high driving position and short bonnet of the defender, has a car like view out , one of the trademarks of the defender . How large will the tray be , mini size ??????

I totally agree my friend. The current model is the only model in the range with any distinction from the other LR motors, and if it had to fall in line with the rest of the range, I would rarther them retire the Defender than start ![]() 2008 110 SW |

The above (excellent) book by Roger Crathorne was first published in 2008. There are a couple of pages in which he describes his vision for a new Defender which are pretty much spot on in my opinion. On the styling front though it doesn't appear as if Land Rover have listened to him. If you want to read them (get in quick before Martin has to delete them for breach of copyright!) have a look in My Gallery under the album New Defender - Born in Lode Lane.
If you need to ask who Roger Crathorne is then I suggest you buy the book! |

Let the record show my forecast:
A year after production of the final incarnation of the DC100 there will be a whole new band of LR followers exulting the joys of the fantastic, go anywhere, practical and comfortable defender replacement. With them there will be many old Defender and LR supporters who might have been sceptical but will have been converted ......and for them the old defender will be long forgotten. ...the remainder of the die hard Defender types will be scratching their beards and pulling their woolly underpants out of the crack of their hairy ass saying ..." it's crap ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone want to place their bets ? ![]() ![]() Last edited by DG on 2nd Sep 2011 6:29am.
