Turbo hose worn through - Not the usual.
The hose from my turbo to the intercooler has worn through but not on the usual suspect the steering column. There are marks where it has contacted the steering column but it has actually pierced through on a rivet on the inner wheel arch that secures the foam blanket insulation stuff. Anyone else seen this? I’ll need to something about that rivet to stop a recurrence.

In terms of replacement, there’s not much in the price between Genuine LR rubber and BAS, Alive and Alisport silicone. I’ll probably go BAS, unless there’s any reason not to.

It used to be fitted to CSW models along with the plastic fibre under trays to reduce the drive by noise for various overseas regulations involving it the CSW being classed as a car not a utility vehicle.

The padding was only present in recent years on the XS, I think, and I seriously doubt that it does anything useful.

Thanks to your post, Bluest, I had a closer look today, and may just have avoided a hose leak Thumbs Up

Now, my 2015 doesn't have the padding anymore, BUT one of the bolts holding the (now plastic) inner wheel arch has ripped a protective sleeve of the turbo hose. Sooner or later, the hose itself would have been damaged, I'm sure (luckily, there is a wire around the hose, which may have protected it).

I put some washer on the bolt, so it isn't going in as far as before.
But you can also see, the hose is rubbing on the inner wheel arch (easy to see, thanks to all the dirt Very Happy )

Any ideas how to improve this situation welcome.

Happens to me some years ago, If I remember well I replace the rivet by a bolt that don't touch the hose.

Mine did exactly this in August. The stock rubber hose gets soft with heat and time and moves over to rub against one of the bolts that holds the air box support.

I replaced all of them with BAS silicone hoses which are much more stiff and don’t flex. Soon I’ll add the hose-to-alternator bracket that the rhd cars got. For 95 bucks the BAS hoses were an easy buy for me vs trying to source something else (I was travelling for a month and needed a proper solution, fast) Roaming around 🇳🇴🇨🇭

Can you reverse the direction of the bolt? Or just cut the excess threads off in situ. If you shortened the bolt off the vehicle would you still be able to fit it?

As for the hose moving laterally ~ just try-wrap some foam or sleeve with an old section of hose so it acts as a sacrificial rubbing surface. The harder the material, within reason, the better. I've seen old mountain bike tyres used to good effect.

LR053189 (its actually for RHD cars to keep the hose off steering gear) seems like a good addition. I have ordered one to fit. My BAS hose is not rubbing at the moment, but that hose is so long it does move around a bit.
