I am still working through book 2 of the complete piano player, and i have to say Beatle songs are pure crap to learn! I spent some time learning it to the point i can put it to bed. Onto the 3 beats to the bar songs now, Which are a little challenging. If they are fun to learn you really do pick them up quickly, but if you do not know the song it turns out to be just a bunch of notes Reason i hate beatles songs, was due to the fact that one of the complete keyboard player books was full of them! I had to say to my keyboard tutor, is this book a beatles book? He just laughed, i said i have never heard any of these at all. Sort of puts a downer on things if you have to learn songs you dont even know or even like the band, I am not a fan of the beatles too. Give some abba and beegees stuff i will happy learn those.

Today, was the day, when it was all tested. Sorry for the sound quality in the video, it's the camera's fault. Everything worked as it should do, there were no oil leaks, so I am a happy man. Although there are some small modifications that I am going to make. Now that the engine has a load on it, even if it is no where near what it will have to deal with, it's exhaust note has changed and is quite pleasant, in a noisy sort of gruff way.

One Defender project completed for me sofar, a back end refresh.
Fed up with a slightly rusty cross-member (again) and a very tatty Alisport carrier, which I have been meaning for ages to take off for blasting and either galvanising or power-coating, I finally had tome to do something about it. Since the carrier will definitely be off for a while (and I have been getting fed up with having to open a very heavy wheel and carrier to access the back), the wheel will be going on the roof for a bit, and I decided on a new look. So some time with the sander, Aquasteel, primer, and chassis paint, throw in a refurbished NATO pintle, and I am pleased with the result. The receiver still works perfectly if a towball is needed (the drop plate still fits under the pintle) and the tailgate, to my surprise, is just clear of the pintle when open. So this is the "before" look:- Click image to enlarge This is "after" look:- Click image to enlarge It was surprising how much the back end lifted when I took the wheel and carrier off and put the wheel in the back for now, the rear springs went up at least an inch. I also rationalised the rear cameras somewhat, although the rear-facing dashcam location isn't ideal now since it records alot of a rear bumperette following close behind! It does still get the traffic though. Not visible in the photo is the second reversing camera which looks almost straight downwards from the rear of the rack and is ideally placed for hitching trailers, or giving other motorists the scare of their lives when you reverse to within 5mm of their car in perfect safety! Before the fun police panic, the "after" photo was taken before I refitted the obligatory rear reflectors. They are now back on. |

A small job almost done, rear mudflap refurb.
Click image to enlarge Normally I would have replaced the brackets with stainless steel ones, but with plenty of time on hand and paint in the garage these got a clean up. Removed rust and paint with a flap wheel in the grinder. 3 coats of zinc rich primer, 2 coats of underseal. Stainless screws, nuts and washers from stock. I'll make some reinforcements for the wings from the aluminium angle before refitting. Total cost £0. Next time they need doing it will get new brackets. |

Great idea with the Nato hitch Blackwolf. Have got one kicking around and was thinking of getting another 2" safari equip drop plate to mount it on but with your idea it is the correct crossmember height too.

Be aware that you'll need to space the pintle off the receiver hitch mounting plate by about 15mm so that the rotate/fixed latch can drop without fouling the two M16 setscrews. I cut a spacer from some mild steel plate I had. Also the r/f latch won't drop far enough for the pin to lock it down in the usual way, but you can refit the pin in the upper hole which achieves the desired result.
I'll try to get a photo showing what I mean tomorrow, it's quite simple and all works as intended. |

Out of interest, do you ever have any joy with the M8 bolt and locknut on the receiver? I find that no matter what I do with it the hitch comes loose and rattles after just a few miles. My main use for it is to lock the plastic LR blanking plug in the receiver when not in use so no one with sticky fingers nicks it! Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

No, I don't tend to bother with it, is just sits in the hole to protect the thread.
It has always seemed a bit daft to me to have a quick-change, tool-less hitch system which then requires the use of a spanner to tighten up a totally ineffective feature! |
